Hello everyone! I have a 2017 jeep patriot 2.4 L. Before I tell you about my current issue, I would like to let it be know that since I have owned the vehicle (purchased brand new), I have replaced the battery 3 times. The last time I replaced it was September 2022.
About 3 weeks ago, my jeep clicked and didn't start so I got a jump. 30 mins into my driving, my jeep completely shut down while I was driving, (power, lights, everything). My boyfriend jumped me so I was able to make it home, however, when it started back up, the radio screen was non functional, the headlights would not shut off, wipers wouldn't work, nor would the turn signals.
I towed the jeep to a mechanic who originally thought it was the alternator, but he said more than likely it wasn't the issue due to the issues it was having. He ran the computer on it and said it was reading no errors. He thinks its the TIMP.
My boyfriend was driving my jeep to work since it is just down the road.
About a week later, I went into the fuse box in the engine compartment to check some fuses that were related to my issues. All of the fuses I checked were good. I started my jeep, and everything was functioning again. I thought I was in the clear.
Well.. now I am having issues again. The battery keeps dying on me. I have a portable jump battery starter which seems to be working, but I am terrified to drive my jeep more than a couple of miles from my home in the chance it will shut down again. Has anyone had this issue? He said the TIMP's are roughly $1200 and they are on national back order. The jeep dealership said they have 10 vehicles waiting on their lot waiting for a new TIMP replacement.
Thank you in advance!
