Received a letter from Chrysler concerning crossmember corrosion. No TSB# or recall# mentioned. Can't find any reference to this problem recently. Has this been a problem, and were traumatic failures the reason behind this letter? Has anyone else gotten this note? Mine's dated 29MAY14.
Thanks.

Extended Jeep Warranty

I received the letter on May 29, 2014 and also own a 2007 Jeep Patriot. Approximately 2 weeks prior to receiving the letter the Front Spring Coil on the drivers side of my Jeep broke. When the front spring coil broke, the strut cartridge was severely bent and worn into the front tire causing it to overheat. Fortunately, we pulled over immediately after smelling the "heat" and had the car towed as it was not safe to drive. My mechanic could not believe how much corrosion was visible under the car and he could not believe that a front spring coil - especially on a jeep would simply crack and break. It cost me over $1000 to replace the front spring coil, the strut cartridge, new tire, and misc parts on both the drivers and passengers side of the car. I was without the Jeep for over 2 weeks since spring coils are not easily available. This could have ended in tragedy had the tire blown out while I was driving down the highway. I would encourage others to have their Jeeps checked. I will be writing to Jeep and requesting reimbursement. Fortunately since this scenario is so rare, my mechanic encouraged me to keep the old parts just in case there was a future recall!!!

Got this letter in the mail about 2 months after my husband replaced every single A frame and bushing in the rear end of my 07 Compass due to horrible rust. The only thing that he didn't replace was the front and rear crossmembers. They definitely should have been replaced, as they were completely rusted and the rear one had a two inch hole straight through the whole thing, but it was too big a job for him to tackle. Then, the letter came in the mail. I was so excited. Took it in to my local Jeep dealer, who put it up on the lift and said to me "oh, it's fine. We're just going to keep inspecting it every year..." Apparently they didn't see that 2 inch rust hole until my husband crawled under there with the service manager and pointed it out to him...YEAH RIGHT!!! So after a bit of arguing, my appointment to get my rear crossmember replaced is next Monday.

Hi I received the same letter 2 weeks ago I own a 2007 Jeep Patriot 4x4 2.4L.
Extreme caution!

Just last Thursday I was in PEI 4 hours away on vacation driving with my fiancee and my rear cross member welds and steel snapped right off on the right side sending me into oncoming traffic.

This is a very serious issue! The letter I received shows absolutely no severity of the problem at all. It is very serious and could cause a major accident even death for that matter.

At first they weren't even going to pay for a rental car for me to get home till I started to get real angry I mean if that was the front end that snapped I would be embedded in on coming traffic. I'm livid! plus I will have to drive back 4hours there and back to pick it up when its ready. Chrysler only authorized 5 day car rental for me and today is day 5. This is not over yet.

Get your vehicle checked as soon as possible!
This could turn into a class action suit if people are hurt.

Cheers

Yikes, this is the first that I have heard of this! I purchased my '07 Pat six months ago used. (Since then I have replaced both LCA & Ball joints, Tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, end links and struts)...now this? :wow:

I am in Ontario, the salt Capital of the Universe, what if I do not get a letter?

I've done thousands of dollars of work on the bottom of my '07 Patriot due to rust. Brake rotors, calipers, control arms (front and rear), tie rods, toe links, etc. Only 65000 highway only miles. The rear quarter panels, doors have big rust holes. Now I need another $1200 in suspension repairs and my independent mechanic won't do it till I get the severely rusted cross members replaced. Of course Jeep won't replace them till they actually break! So I guess I play the dangerous waiting game and hope I don't get into an accident.

I'm in the same boat, rust is so bad regular service can't be performed. I didn't get the letter but was told to visit my local dealer. They looked at it and declared it a golden example of road worthiness.

I asked if I might need to make future inspection visits and they said "no" - quite flatly.

Hello Jeep cares, does this meet your gold standard? is consumer retention your purpose? because this issue requires your attention.

I had mine replaced at Canadian tire..it was in for a new slave cylinder and the mechanic (friend) called me and told me it was rusted out. I bought it used and never had any warranty so I found a used one and he replaced it. He told me I should check with Chrysler because a coworker of his had her's fixed under warranty.
So I did..called Chrysler and was told to submit my receipts for review.
I got a please **** off letter from them today.
And I quote "a careful review of the invoices did not identify any items that were related to the X58 extended warranty. Repairs completed with used parts cannot be considered for reimbursement!"
WTF..my invoice from the shop that repaired it has the vin # on the invoice as well as year, make and model, plus "install customer supplied k member".
The receipt from the salvage yard has the vin # off the compass they got the k member off of plus k-frame. "
I'm calling them tomorrow and if I don't get any satisfaction I will be getting the name and address of whomever I'm talking to and they will be getting a summons served for small claims court. Even if I lose..it will be worth it to have them fly that person down here for court..
*******s.

I just took my 07 Jeep Compass in this morning! The entire front cross member is rusted and CRACKING! The ONLY reason I knew anything was because the engine light came on because of a sensor. I WISH I could post the horrifying pictures! This is really serious! In driving it last night the brake swerve light came on and the steering went out! So glad I did not have my children with me!
