Hi All,
This is not something I'm proud of and don't worry huge lesson learned! Upon speaking to the police officer today.(really nice guy) I am likely to be restricted to driving to and from work for 6 or 12 months. but this will be up to the court to decide.

I'm not normally a drinker maybe 3-4 times a year I have a few and never drive afterwards. I will never drive with any alcohol in my system again, now knowing how little it takes to cause loss of awareness and subsequently a crash.

Thankyou to those of you who have seen it from where I am and to the others I can defiantly see it from your side too, this was the dumbest thing I have ever done and the truth is a few weeks ago I would have been on your side hurling abuse.

The first car on the scene when I had just climbed out of the wreck was a young guy about 18 or so, who I waved down. he then told me he was pissed and had no license before speeding off. I told him he was a focking idiot for driving drunk not even considering that I would be over the limit myself.

Take care out there guys it can happen so easily,

Negative reinforcement is a powerful learning tool. ;)

This seismic shift in society's attitude towards drink/drive is why I have stopped using alcohol altogether.

I have gone back to recreational drug use and prescription pill abuse.

Drugs got me through the '70s, now I'm hoping they will get me through my 70s.

Anybody need a ride to the Farmer's Market?.
Make your jokes until you kill somebody and the cops do a background check and find this comment... yeah, that'll be a good show in court.

Thank you for this response. I'm glad to see that it seems like you've learned your lesson. I hope that you and others learn from this and use it to teach others of the dangers of even just one drink and driving. Good luck.

A buddy of mine was booked for drink driving last year. He had a big night at a friends place and stayed the night, thinking he would be OK in the morning...

After a hearty breakfast he packed up around 10.00am and left the house for home, which happened to be 800 kms away.Firstly he drove out of the street in the wrong direction, a dead end street so the friends were still in their driveway waving when he passed after a u-turn at the end of the street. Maybe a hint?

Then he got on the highway and was doing 15kms over the speed limit at which point he was noticed by an alert patrolman. He was pulled over, license checked and breath tested.

Result was:

  • loss of license 3 months
  • Heavy fine speeding and dui combined
  • Had to stay in motel for 3 days until court appearance
  • Allowed to drive home then license cancelled.

His job required him to drive, but luckily for him that he was allowed to take an apprentice for training who drove the vehicle, or the job would have gone also....

Now I'm no angel, but nowadays I only drink light beers and only one per hour. This was a huge awakening for my mate who thought it would be all out of his system....

Whoa!!!

This thread is quiet heated.... as it should be. DUI is a serious matter.

I wont lie, I have been caught drink driving a long time ago in the past and since then (after all the eye opening studies and info I was provided by the police and support services), I will never do it again.

I wont even drive after a single drink... If Im gonna drink, my car stays where it is overnight and I will go and pick it up the next day.

Some people have been affected by drink driving in many ways (i.e. you may be the driver and just get fined by cops, or you may be the driver that injures or kills someone, you may be the person who is injured or killed by a drunk driver, you may be the family member or friend of someone that is caught for drink driving or is injured or killed by a drunk driver, etc)...

At the end of the day, nothing good ever comes out of it...

But most importantly, remember its not just your life your playing with, but everyone else thats on the road with you..

Peace!

Deeps

Mate, I have an 08 with a faulty abs control module - and may need an abs pump..

If you are parting it out, I'm in perth - and I REALLY need these parts.. can you let me know if you still have them ?

I'd be surprised if you resurrected a reply like you did this thread.

You're so very right. It can happen so easily. I've done worse than you (see below). Those beers probably made the difference between driving dangerously and having a wreck. I'll pass a few pointers on to anyone else reading.

1) Alcohol affects judgment. That's why you didn't notice how tired you were, and why you thought it was OK to drive.

2) "Amateur" drinkers (like you and me) are more dangerous than the regular drinkers -- they know their limits, we don't.

3) I once worked semi-professionally in music. I discovered that practicing music after even a single glass of wine with dinner was a waste of time. I wasn't drunk, but even that marginal impact affected my eye-hand coordination so that any practice was meaningless. It doesn't take much.

4) I was quite a drinker in high school. I got lucky a lot; then it hit me (a Ford, while me and my friends were ignoring a stop sign). As our car rolled over and I realized everything my parents had taught me about drinking was true. We were lucky again to only get 'treated and released' and a ride home in a state cruiser. (The people in the other car were all OK)

5) Since then I will not have more than one drink in an evening, and I'll make it last the whole time. Even then I follow the 2 hour rule.

6) I'll forgive you; I hope your family does, too, but you'll probably be a while living it down. You're learning the lesson. You've made your resolution. Stick with it. :smiley_thumbs_up:
