Anyone have there experience with the 2017 model? My girlfriend is afraid for the fact that there could be potential transmission issues or with it breaking down. It's the sport 5 speed manual that we're interested in. Any thoughts? Do you like your Jeep Patriot? Any issues mechanically?

My 2014 Patriot has the 5-spd. It's now at 145,000 miles and hasn't given me any trouble. By all accounts the 5-spd seems to be the more durable transmission. Very few reports on this site about problems with it.

I also had a 2008 Patriot with the automatic (CVT) and it was replaced twice under warranty, but other than that no serious problems till after 200,000 miles.

About 210,000 I had an electrical problem that my dealer did an excellent job trouble-shooting. That was my first repair and was well worth the $1000. With those miles I couldn't complain. Sooner or later anything can break down, but I think my Patriots have been quite durable.

After that I did struts around 225,000 and the throttle body around 250,000. I sold it to a friend and he's still driving it -- around 295,000 last time we talked. He hasn't mentioned any problems. In fact he bought a set of snow tires from me so I guess he's planning on keeping it for a while yet.

Welcome Audie,

Though the 2wd manuals seem to have fewer issues, the 4x4 5 speed manuals have documented a fair share of issues, primarily with bearings and clutch/slave cylinders going out.

The clutch cylinder/slave cylinder is inside the bell housing so replacement requires removing the transmission.

Also, the 4x4 manual transmissions have apparently become difficult to find used and are expensive. 2WD transmissions have been adapted to work, but are not a drop in replacement.

In any case, if you get one that's low miles, hasn't been abused, and keep on fluid changes you should get some decent use out of it.

If you do a little searching here you can probably turn up more info on it that may help you.

Just to speak on the build quality, the last years of Patriot production were
very good. That's just my opinion based on Belvedere workers having excellent knowledge of the Patriot, Dart and Compass platforms during the rundown of the models. I talked to one lady who worked the Belvedere line who confirmed the dedication in putting together a product from their plant. I believe you will see this too in reliability rating of Patriots in the last few production years.

Am I right someone? The '17 models were just leftover '16 models????

The 17 stock is the remaining 16 builds. I have one of the last Patriots to come off of the assembly line. I would not buy any Patriot older than a 2014 and not one with significant mileage on it, unless it was cheap and had all the extras I like, like the premium audio.

We bought a 2008 Patriot 4X4 with the 5 speed manual and put 260k KM on it before trading it in on our present 2015 Patriot with the 6 speed autotech tranny. We had excellent results with both vehicles. I hope our 2015 lasts forever because I am not too impressed with Fiat and the newer Jeep products.

I purchased a 2016 with 60k miles and five speed. If it had been a CVT I would have taken a pass. I have had it a month now and put 1200 miles with no significant issues.

I have a 2015 4wd with a 5-speed and really enjoy it. Bought it used with 30k miles now has close to 60k.
I drive it gently and have not taken it off road.

The build quality is better than I expected. With Mobil1 in the crankcase, I get 30+ mpg on the highway.
