Rub / No-Rub on 17" compilation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,
As promised here is the same compilation that I did for the 16" tires but now for the 17" ones
I am listing the tire size, and the member who tried it.
Thanks to all members who shared their experience

Do not Rub

215/65/17 - LostJeep

225/65/17 - JeepMuck, Stepher15, DesertDog

235/65/17 - (there is a division among the users of this size)
(some members report no rubbing while some others do)
No rubbing reported by:
NebCarson, Daltonsjeep, SnoKat (with spacers)

Rub

235/65/17 - Snowman, JakeP707, Tony1911, LiftedMK*(first 6 months only)

245/65/17 - JeepJim, Goebel1, Boilermaker, wwworth

This is for a standard Patriot and not lifted, correct?
What size are you talking about specifically? The 215/225's should not rub without the lift. I am using 225/60's and am fine. I am almost certain the 225/65's do not need lifting either.

As for the 235's I would prefer someone else answering on that one.

Looks like you took some time on this list!

Hate to be that guy but... will 235/70/17 tires fit on a 2010 Limited Pat with RRO lift and 1.25 spacers?

Well I'm going to be getting some Yokohama Geolanders myself unless something better pops up. I got the stock Goodyears and at 38k they are just about shot. I hope these wear better and without the tire rub. Any update on the tire rub btw? how much has been taken off? 215/60/17's are now available....

EDIT: SCRATCH the Yoko Geolanders, at 190 a piece they can go f*** themselves.
EDIT again, Tire Rack has them for much cheaper, I may get Geolanders after all LOL

So, to recap, if you have a non-lifted Pat with 17" wheels, you should stick with 215/65/17 or 225/65/17 if you don't want any chance of rubbing. Correct?

Now to search for relatively aggressive looking tires that don't break my budget....

EDIT: I lied, Tony1911 did have some slight rubbing with the 225s... hmm... wait, with the lift? OK, now I am confused...

anyone have the Yoko geolander A/T's (225/65/17) on a non-lifted, non-4x4 patriot? I saw that the geolander's overall diameter is 29.6" which is quite a bit more than I expected.....I would hate to have to get something smaller because the OEM tires blow donkey balls, and the other alternatives in the same size suck

EDIT: NM, tirerack.com must be incorrect, Yoko's website sez it's 28.5

see post # 4 please. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

<edit> OK, you're forgiven - you're looking for a 4X2, although that's the same as a 4X4 suspension wise.

Ladies and Gents - It's all up there in post #5 and I add sizes as I see them discussed in various threads.:D

i saw it, just alarmed me to see tirerack.com's misprint on overall diameter. I doubled checked with yoko to make sure, my tires should be on this weekend :smiley_thumbs_up:

225/70/17 bfg at's fit...with minimal rub. being installed on my jeep with new mamba wheels soon...

Yikes! $1400!? Are they using platinum wheel weights and golden wrenches? www.tirerack.com has the 225 and 235/65R17 for $118 and $116 respectively (yes, the 225 is $2 more). So a set of four would be $472 or less and with estimated Shipping Costs to ZIP Code V1M 0A1 @ $142, that comes to $614...not even half of your quote.

I updated the list (post #4) with a link to Cheropair's 225-70/17 BFG AT's.

btw - this thread isn't about where you bought them, complaining about how much they cost, or wondering who can do your alignment. Feel free to ask questions in the specific threads for each tire (see post #4 of this thread for links to all sizes). Thanks!

I am looking at the same size so I can upgrade my stock 215/60R-17 tires. Not a big fan of the Firestone Affinity tires in bad weather( i.e. winter ). What was Jeep thinking using a tire size that basically only has pasenger car tires available on a 4WD Jeep?

I have concerns about rubbing as well not because of the overall height but rather due to the section width of the tire. It is very close to the stock 215/65R-17 tires height wise but it is wider and I would hate to spend money on tires and have them rub on the suspension or hit in sharp turns.

I haven't seen anyone post they are running this size( lifted or not ). If anyone has this size could you let us know if there are any rub issues. This tire seems to be an ideal replacement tire for those who want a true light truck tire( AS or AT )as it is very close to the OE tire size( 215/65 = 28.00 235/60 = 28.10 ) and won't screw up the speedo much at all( @ 60 MPH on speedo actual speed 215/65 = 60 MPH 235/60 = 59.7 MPH ). MY only concern is the section width possibly being an issue if the OE tires are maxing out the available space( 215/65 = 8.46 235/60 = 9.25 ).

It never even crossed my mind that the tires would be such an issue due to the oddball size used on a 4WD suv. I want to run Firestone Destinatio LE all seasons as they are excellent tires. They come in 235/60R-17 but not in either of the 2 OE sizes.
