What would you buy now if you didn't have the Patriot

Kind of curious what current members may buy vehicle wise of what is available right now, if you didn't have the Patriot. I fully expect some Wrangler responses, but in looking at other vehicles from other manufacturers, what else might you be interested in and why?

I was thinking about trading my Patriot in a couple of years and was seriously looking at the Nissan Xterra. Unfortunately, 2016 is the last year for the Xterra, so unless I want to purchase a used one, looks like I'm SOL. I know this is a Jeep Patriot site, but I was just curious. In 2 to 3 years I'll be looking to trade in and might look at something completely different.

JKU Rubicon is a dream vehicle for me. I like the AEV Wrangler conversions too. And a lot of other expensive choices. I'd also consider the Renegade Trail Hawk, for stock, factory.

If available here I'd look at a Suzuki Jimny too. I've had great luck with my Trackers, and my 03, with 240K miles on it, still runs strong, and still gets up my driveway in the winter.

Any vehicle I'd get would have to make my driveway in winter.

With kid #4 on the way, I am now in the 7 passenger vehicle market, I just bought a ford freestyle, which is very smartly designed. I fit in the 3rd row comfortably, and there is still room behind it for a double stroller, and I can buckle both kids in the back while still standing outside the car. But when I bought it I had $2500 cash, I obviously didn't get all the options I wanted...

If I had all the money in the world, I would buy a new flex, which is very much the same overall design on a much updated platform, with the AWD and turboboost engine... can you imagine a family hauler with nearly 365hp? mmMMMmmm....

That's my dilemma soon ... need to replace the Hyundai this year I hope and want to get some sort of good MPG SUV/crossover that gets good gas mileage yet has features and is not hideous in the $8k range with as low miles as possible. I may be looking for too much for too little I know.

you can't hardly buy 07/08 patriot around here for that kind of money. maybe pick up a grand vitara? I really liked the ones I looked at, almost bought one over my patriot, except the guy wasn't willing to work on price with me at all. MSRP or nothing. pick up like an 06 with the v6? nearly the same mpg as the 4cyl, but a lot more power.

I dunno, probably a Buick that burns thru a quart of oil a month, or a late-90's Accord. Maybe, if I'm feeling particularly saucy, a Subaru Legacy wagon that's recently had the head gaskets replaced.

I dunno, I don't really get to choose these things. My wallet chooses for me, and my wallet is really damn skinny and has no taste in cars. My car budget is about whatever the trade-in value is on the Patriot. Assuming it's still running when I trade it in, that is. If not... well, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

My finances ultimately dictate what is realistic and what isn't, but I looked pretty hard at Subaru's before I bought my Patriot and I still think the Crosstrek and Forester would fit my needs. The new Cherokee would also get some consideration. I'd also look at something like the new Colorado's, in that a 4 door mid size truck has a lot of the same utility.

Knowing what I know now, I might well want what I currently have anyways, or maybe a 2012 for the Rescue Green or Copperhead Orange Pearl. If a Patriot weren't an option though, I might go for the 2000 Monte Carlo SS I've wanted for so long, or maybe a WJ or XJ to keep on Jeepin'.

If I had twenty billion dollars to waste, most likely all of the above, with a McLaren F1 and a few other not-usually-seen-on-this-continent vehicles like a Nissan R34 and Pagani Zonda Cinque thrown in for good measure. But realistically....yeah, we get it, lol.

Who knows, once you hit the 25 year mark to import that Skyline, maybe you'll have the 20 billion you need.

My brother-in-law has a JKU and I just don't like it. Great off road but too big outside and uncomfortable inside not to mention the poor gas mileage. No Patriot, probably a Jeep Cherokee. We test drove one and FCA hit a home run with the Cherokee but it sure has some quality/reliability issues. Very few options out there for a smaller SUV with off road ability.

If they were available I'd buy another Patriot. In fact I just did the end of March (purchased a lightly used 2014 and kept the 2008).

If the Patriot wasn't available and I wanted a CUV, I'd look carefully at Subaru. My only fear there is that a friend had a Subaru transmission go south and they wouldn't fix it because he couldn't prove he hadn't skipped an oil change (I know, that's unrelated to the transmission, but they were looking for a way to deny coverage, and they did). That doesn't speak well of the company or the local dealer. My friend is a credible young man with another 40 years of potential car-buying ahead of him -- they blew off him and everybody who knows him.

For many years I drove GM and I'd consider maybe a Chevy Equinox.

I may not go with a CUV another time. A nice 4-door sedan looks mighty comfy. Maybe a Chrysler 200. Probably not the greatest in snow, but we've still got the Wrangler if we need it. I like the looks of the Dodge Avenger, but that's been discontinued now.

Frankly, I never would have bought my Patriot if GM still made the Pontiac Grand Prix in 2009. That's what I wanted and the G6 just didn't fit the bill. I went across the street, didn't like the Avenger I drove and stumbled onto Ignatz, a 2008 leftover. You know the rest.

I would want a 4 wheel drive Patriot to replace mine if I had to. If that's an option! :)

The new Chevrolet Trail Blazer that's coming out looks awesome to me. I wouldn't mind that at all. I also like the Chevy Colorado as an option, 4 door, 4 wheel drive.

If I ever went diesel I wouldn't mind a late 90's Dodge Ram Cummins 4x4 to try...

Something with more cylinders for sure, I like the aggressive look of the new Chargers and having one with AWD would be great for the snow. That being said, I wouldn't mind a blacked out Dart with the 1.4 turbo and 6 speed manual, they have a nice stock exhaust note to them.

considering im on the same patriot budget maybe a 2008 or newer ford escape or something like an suv or small suv that gets great gas milage like our dear old riot

There's honestly nothing right now available that I'd rather have than my Patriot. If I didn't have it or another WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I'd look hard at Subaru, though now they're hard to find with a stick. I like Wrangler Unlimited, but I won't tolerate that kind of gas mileage.
I hope the Patriot/Compass replacement doesn't look as toylike as the Renegade or as gay as the Cherokee. But for the foreseeable future I'll keep what I have and love it.....

EXACTLY+! My plan is to order a '16 Patriot as late as I can and drive it until one of us dies. My wife just traded her Patriot on a Crosstrek and it's nice but I don't see lumber and bags of whatever in the back of that thing. The only thing that will send me to Subaru is no manual in the +16 Patriot. Even then I will try to find a "15 Patriot with a 5 speed...which I think I can do....Hopefully...

Nothing out there that's worth my money, except maybe the new '18 wrangler (if it isn't to pricey) I'd rather have a few older YJ's or XJ's(since they're a bit cheaper) I could have more than one so I can wheel one while fixing the other:pepper:. Unless I had to get a 7 passenger vehicle them maybe the new Ecoboost Expedition.

I am concerned, I was just about to buy a new Patriot, but everyone says too many problems, noisy, poorly built, uncomfortable, too many returns under the Lemon Laws. Has any of these issues changed with the 2015? I was told the new 2015 Patriot is now being built at a new location and may have improved in quality, any input on this??

I am now considering the Subaru Outback, they finally got in tune with quality and are manufacturing a very good SUV… but the cost is around $4-5k more than the Patriot,, Let me know your thoughts…

Those are the review of the 2007 Patriots, and most had lifetime powertrain so no one should be complaining...The 09's and up really only had sunroof leaks and all still have flimsier suspension but it's so cheap to replace it's not a big deal. 5 year cost of ownership the Pat is one of the best. Look up subaru's burning oil...
