I have a 2011 Patriot. 141000 miles. I just replaced the factory idler pulleys and tensioner due to bearing squeal, I also replaced the serp belt. Now within seconds after

I start up the serp belt pops off. It appears the factory pulley has a ridge on the out side i guess to keep the belt on, but the aftermarket does not. Is this the issue?? Thanks

I just did this same job a few weeks ago and neither my oem or gates idler pulleys or gates tensioner assembly has a ridge. I've got a few hundred miles on it all now without issues. I'd make sure the new pulleys sit flat to the engine and nothing is out of alignment.

I also just replaced all 4 belt components a few months ago at about 110,000 miles on my 2014 Pat (2.4L with air cond.). I just checked my old OEM parts and concur there is no ridge on any of the pulleys. Your ridge is abnormal wear. Did you maybe not have the new belt correctly seated in the grooved engine pulleys? Are the pulleys are mounted in the correct position (small on top, big on bottom). I agree with Todd that you will have to check all the alignments. Double check that your replacement parts are correct.

Pic of my old parts on the RockAuto OEM replacement boxes (I choose OEM for important stuff). Please follow up with your solution.

Nope it is tight, another post said to check the alt decoupler? Is there a way to shim the pulley to add a little angle so the belt does not walk out? The rotation is clock wise correct? if so it feed from the water pump to the idlers. Is there a adjustment on the water pump? Even so the old belt stayed on the pulleys.

When I bought my components, they didn't have a kit for the w/automatic, only the kit for the manual. I had to buy individual pieces paying attention the they were for an automatic transmission. The belt sizes (length) are apparently different. I'd double check the belt part number.

Hmm, i did order my parts off rockauto, specifically the Gates 39053 tensioner assembly. Maybe the Amazon kit has the wrong part or it's a Gates knock-off?

I also got both Gates idlers, 36322 and 36323 along with a Bando brand belt 6PK2555.

My total with shipping and a 5% off coupon code was only $93.12.

I'll have to look at mine. It's been on a while now so i should have good witness marks for where it's riding.

I just checked mine and the belt is centered on the upper idler and i can see the tensioner is also riding near the center.

Did u fix it ? I am going though the same ****!
If you've replaced any pulleys or the tensioner, you may want to check them against the factory parts to see if they're the same. There have been reports of pulleys and belt tensioners not being properly manufactured, causing them to be misaligned which can cause belts to shred or come off.

Some have installed washers as spacers between the tensioner / pulleys and the engine for proper spacing. Others have had to replace them.
