I'm just a dumb teenager who got a cheap patriot and I have an idea for a rally patriot since it seems like a decent platform for the project. I was thinking of converting it to awd and preferably making it hit 300+hp wither it being from a engine swap or just turboing the godforsaken 2.4l engine in it I'm open to ideas and I'm aware of both the time and budget problems also I know there will be the people who will say this is stupid and a waste of time but that is the whole point I'm open to ideas to help out with the project.

The biggest problem is finding a AWD transmission that will fit/bolt up and can handle the power. None of the stock transmissions come anywhere close.

There's a project using the transmission from a Caliber SRT, but that transmission is FWD only.

Welcome to the site! You have a rather ambitious project. Unless you have unusually talented mechanical abilities, I'd suggest a snazzy paint job and oversized wheels/tires. Customize your heart out, but beware of creating unsolvable problems when you start replacing major components because the electronics are so deeply integrated in modern vehicles.

As for souping up a 2.4, these things come pretty maxed out from the factory. We're already running more than 1hp/CID. I've seen a few threads on here about people trying to add a turbo, but I don't recall any success stories.

Sounds like how I got the idea to modify mine for the Baja 1000. Unfortunately I'm not mechanically inclined, I'm kinda poor, and nobody wants to sponsor a Patriot. Plus other things have taken priority over the years. Keep us posted, especially if you manage to make a CVT that'll handle that kind of power. Me personally, I think 250-300ish might do the trick, but of course the drivetrain would be a bit of a headache and getting the suspension extended/widened so that 265/75R16 KO3's fit underneath would be about as complex. Probably not as big an issue if you're looking at flatter dirt roads and the like.

Either project would be amazing! I can only imagine you will need to do some serious modification to the suspension for those big mills. Those will be much heavier than our little World Engines. Also consider the stress on the fairly light frame of a Patriot compared to a truck.

Electronics will be a bigger struggle than the mechanicals. The turbo engine wouldn't weigh as much and I know others on this site who have tried, though AFAIK, none have succeeded. There's always a first.

Maybe use the search bar above and read the experience of others. Even reach out to those who have tried -- they may enlighten you to potential problems.

I love this, I want to do the same! Also, the 2.4L world engine was in the Dodge Caliber SRT-4, turbocharged producing 285 hp, which is probably plenty enough for rally. There's not much information on it, so I don't know if its the exact same engine setup, stroke length, bore, cam timing, etc. but I believe it is.

Keep us updated on your project!

yeah progress has been really slow lately with my project especially with college and chasing a transmission leak that i cant find but progress is being made waiting for a rear subframe kit and trying to budget for a 6 speed auto or the 5 speed manual that and after the transmission work i've got to install the turbo
