My wife has a 2011 Jeep Patriot Latitude, which we took delivery of on Jan 2, 2011. She puts approximately 18,000 miles/year on it, mostly city miles.
After the first six months the battery died.
The dealer replaced the battery under warranty. We were unhappy that this occurred, but glad to have the battery replaced with a general minimum of downtime, though my wife lives out of her car and travels to multiple clients each and every day.
Today, about two years after the battery was replaced, she goes to pick up the Patriot from a car wash where it was being detailed. It would not start.
Should the battery fail like this after only two years given the 18k/yr mileage and mostly city driving?
Did the detailers leave her lights on, blast the stereo, etc. which drained the battery? They said that they saw acid on the terminals and to pour coke on them. I have not yet inspected the battery, but will as soon as she gets home. Does this point to battery failure?
They were able to give her a jump start, but I am greatly concerned as my wife requires no-excuses reliable transportation. We are also leaving on a trip in two days. I expect better from an only two and a half year old car.
