Hi all, I have a basic Jeep Patriot 2x4 with 98k miles on it. It finally broke down at 98k miles. It needs a crank sensor and some wiring replaced plus a decarb. I use fuel injector cleaner but that only does so much. I have never owned a vehicle get this high of mileage without breaking down. I am pretty impressed and hoping to keep it running. How have your Patriots held up? Any major issues over 100k miles? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forums, glad to hear you're having a good run of it so far!

A couple things to watch are sub-frame rust, and throttle bodies have been an issue for some.

Factory style spark plugs need replaced at around 30k or it can cause stutter and hesitation.

I'm not sure which transmission you have, but if you have the CVT I recommend the factory fluid and both filters changed at 30k then 30-50k thereafter. It's not too difficult to do, several here have done it ourselves and we're not all professional mechanics. Dealers can charge $400 - up for a drain and refill (you don't need a machine flush), independent shops can be less but make sure they know what they're doing.

More info on fluid and filter changes here:

Welcome! I'm glad you love your Patriot. Take good care of them; they're so much better than the present offerings.

I've had two Patriots and both have been good, except . . . the CVT on my 2008 failed twice, first at 110.000 and the second time at 175,000. Fortunately I had the lifetime warranty. Sandstone tells the truth about changing the tranny fluid frequently. The owners manual recommendation is OTL on this.

We liked our 2008 Patriot so much that we got a 2014. This one is running fine at 180,000 miles, only one repair other than normal maintenance -- a rear wheel bearing.
