Hi all- my 2007 trail rated Patriot has over 250,000 miles on it. I'm the original owner with the lifetime powertrain warrantee (which has been used for a couple of big items).

I recently got a p2017 engine code, which translated as an issue with the intake/exhaust manifold- which IS covered under the warrantee. So I took it to my local Jeep dealer- but they diagnosed it as an issue with the "Intake Runner Valve", which they said is NOT covered. My question is, if the Intake runner valve is a part of the intake manifold, why is it NOT covered?

I called the Mopar warrantee number- they weren't able to give me any more information and refered me back to the dealer. Can anyone here either confirm or dispute the dealer claim?

thanks

First, congrats on the mileage.(y)

As far as the valve controller, it bolts to the intake manifold, but IMO it's a separate part. Fortunately, it's not terribly expensive or difficult to replace.

If you think it should be covered, try sending member @JeepCares a PM (Conversations) with your VIN and explain the situation, hopefully they can clarify and if it should be covered perhaps they can contact the dealer on your behalf.

Thanks Sandstone!

And Scott, my apologies, I should have said "Valve controller" (red arrow) instead of valve.

If it's the actual valve inside the manifold (yellow arrows), then that comes with the manifold assembly and IMO is not a separate part.

Sorry for the confusion...

Thanks Sandstone- jeepcares could only refer me to the same mopar service phone number on the warrantee, and THEY told me they couldn't help with individual parts and refered me back to the dealer. It is what it is, I suppose.
So, it's repaired now anyway. Over the 250000 miles I've used the warrantee for a new transmission, a new right front drive axle, a read diff repair and a water pump- so it's paid for itself many times over. I'll be driving the Patriot until the wheels fall off.

I also have maintained my lifetime warranty though other than a rear halfshaft at my last 5 year check up haven't had to use it for anything major. But I've always assumed it only covered mechanical parts and anything electric powered would be considered ancillary to the engine or deemed emissions related. However, i would consider the intake manifold with its mechanical flapper valves covered but not he electric solenoid that controls them. Of course the Mopar replacement manifold comes with a new solenoid so win win.
