ok so i was driving to the bank and all of a sudden my ETC light starts flashing along with my check engine light BAS light ESP light and my rpm will not go above 2000 i had to put on my 4-way flashers and pull over. I turned of the car and started it same thing .. so i drove home at 5mph!!!! 20 mins later im home what gives?!?!!

i have a 2009 4x4 built sep.08 could i have a faulty pcm?

Could be. A friend of mine has a Grand Cherokee that she had to replace the PCM on, and her engine would intermittently stumble before she got it replaced.

This TSB may apply to your vehicle, it goes through August but yours might qualify: RECALL

You might also want to invest in a ScanGauge that can read error codes and see what it says.

Ok so i took it to the dealer they said its the gas pedal needs to be replaced and said to drive it untill they get one in. no problem.. so i drove 5 secs same thing reverse right back into the dealer they gave me a sebring rental. Then i started thinking toyota is having the same issu with their pedals is there any relation? he said there is over 100+ pedals on backorder he also said its a "known problem"

There is at least one relation: The CTS Corporation makes pedals for both Toyota and Chrysler (among others). Quote: "Chrysler got back to us this afternoon and said the pedals CTS makes for the company are different from Toyota’s. “Accelerator pedals produced by CTS Automotive for Chrysler Group LLC vehicles are a different specification and design and are manufactured using different production tooling and materials than the pedals produced for Toyota,” Chrysler said in a statement." Electronic throttle control warning light

2008 Jeep Patriot, 2.4L CVT. 108,500 miles. Engine started to jerk coming to a stop. Running real rough. Could only go 20 mph. Flashing "Lightning" symbol on dashboard. Manual says its Electronic throttle control (ETC). I took it to an independant mech. No codes. Cleaned throttle rails and lubed. OK for a few days. Happened again while we were out of town, But with the traction control warning light staying on solid. Stopped in at an Advanced Auto, no codes... no parts to replace. Took into dealer said it might be wiring or a switch. Started up jeep and problem gone. That lasted for about 5 miles. Got it closer to home by shifting into a lower gear to get it going better, then shifting to 5th from Drive. Got up to about 40mph. Now it's sitting at the dealer's awaiting monday morning.

Sk00by...........what was the outcome of your ETC/ESP problem? Did you get it fixed? I'm having the same problem with my 2009. The first tow to the dealer they replaced the throttle pedal. I got all the way home, 40 miles, and all three lights were back on and I'm in limp mode. ETC/ESP and Check Engine light. Towed it back to the dealer yesterday.

Update: The second repair they replaced a Cam Sensor. Drove it two days and it's sitting in my driveway, the same three light are on again and it's in limp mode. They want me to bring it back..........but here comes another tow expense and $100 deductible on my aftermarket warranty. I told the service adviser that throwing parts on the thing isn't going to fix it.

Update: I finally got fed up and bought a scan tool. I checked for codes and found eight stored. I cleared all of the codes so I could drive the Jeep. Then I got a bug and ripped the left side kick panel off and checked the wiring there and along the floor board.......everything looked good. Could not find a connector, so for 2009 Chrysler must have eliminated it. Then I started looking around the left inner fender well from under the hood. I found two wiring looms rubbing on the metal portion of the inner fender. I protected it using large flexible tubing and tie straps. Then I pulled the inner fender down. There i found two more places where wiring was rubbing metal and protected them as well. To date, I have not had any problems. I have put on many miles after the repair. If I happen to see this problem again, I'll update this post.

Hello again I got the scanner for my 2009 pat. Not one code it spit out was related to the throttle body. It tells me a runner valve is not opening and closing. Easier fix then TB I'm not gonna get my hopes to hi it's that easy a fix. I have been working on cars (not a mechanic by trade) for over 30 years and I'm being drawn to the wheel sensors, a wire short most of these cars have had, as a root behind all this. I didn't get a code related to wheel sensor either. Any thoughts?? Thanks in advance

If it's a wheel speed sensor or wiring, or the tone ring on the hub is bad you'd get the traction control light, but usually the engine would run fine and no throttle light.

Control of the throttle is an integral part of the traction control system, so if the system "thinks" there's a problem that keeps it from properly controlling the engine, it will disable the traction control program and the traction control light comes on

So it could be the wire under the drivers foot rest, or a short in a wire under the hood, or the throttle body or something else.
There could even a problem with corrosion of the chassis grounds G110 and G111/112 in the engine bay (location diagrams below).

One thing that might help you is if your scanner provides a way to look at or log live data on various sensors so you can see what's failing.

Here's an older post on the wire under the drivers side foot rest:

Hope this helps

Dude your awesome... Lot more info then I had hours ago... I'll check the scanner, I have the traction light on the abs, the esp, check engine the throttle light only comes on when I turn the key to on and it stays on. It flashed at me once and that's when the truck started to mess up. Anywhoo, I'm gonna include all codes it spit out and I know some are because of one. Ok all start with p so here goes 0335, 0315, 2017, 2004, 0300, 0339, 0113. The crankshaft code can't be completed until I can actually get the truck to go that fast. If any of these codes clarify things better I'm all ears lol. Im going to check out the wires fore mentioned and go from there. Thanks again for ur help.

Here's some info on 2004 2017 codes:

Here's another post(s) that might give some insight:

And I should have mentioned that on those grounds, there's several wires crimped into one ring lug. The connection at the lug can be clean and the wires can look fine on the outside but they can corrode under the crimp/insulation where you can't see it so the fix is to cut the ring lug off, strip all the wires back and add a new ring lug or lugs.

Everyone else here has way more knowledge about this issue than me, but I had that same exact thing happened to me. My throttle light came on and the engine light came on. I took it over to a shop and they ran a code but nothing popped up. The issue fix itself when I put gas, which is really weird and nothing else has come up since about it
