Hello 2 years ago I bought a 2013 patriot sport. 2.4 manual 4x4 67,000 miles
3 weeks after purchase the transmission failed. 3 months later I purchased a remanufactured transmission with mopar warranty 3 year 100,000 miles. A year and a half later and 20,000 miles or so the transmission is failing. First dealership diagnostic said new transmission recommended. They told me they to come get my vehicle and refused to service my car. Ok 4 months later second dealership is totally trying to get out of fixing my car also. Been without a car for six months. Jeep cares will do nothing. The transmission is back ordered also. With 37 orders. I’m still paying on this thing and basically screwed. I want to get this out there is anyone else having problems and getting screwed by mopar??

I just had the 5-spd manual transmission in my 2014 Patriot replaced. I'm just shy of 200,000 miles. My tranny was still functioning, but making a whining noise. Dealer initially declined to fix it saying I should wait till it gets worse. It got louder in the course of the summer and by September it was time. They suggested the clutch was probably on its last legs too, so I had them do both to save the double-dip on labor. It was done by a franchised CDJR dealer. Took about a week.

They may not be feeding you a line. AYK, they've been on strike so it is likely that parts are in short supply.

They are trying to figure a way not to honor the warranty. I’ve submitted so much paperwork receipts for seals and axles. They are saying things like the shop didn’t obtain prior authorization to install. None of that applies to the initial installation. That all has to do with the shop or dealer getting compensated for the work.

Kinda supports my theory above.

BTW, I see you're new here. Welcome! Sorry for the reason you found our site, I hope someone may be able to help. There are others on here more knowledgeable than I. Jeepcares has been pretty helpful for others on this site -- I'd give them another shot. Even if you're out of warranty, they may still intercede with a dealer to get your Jeep fixed. Jeepcares helped me out with our Wrangler a few months ago and even got me more than I was asking for.

Looking back on your first post, you got a 3 year/100,000 warranty on the transmission so they ought to cover it. You got that in writing? If so, @JeepCares ought to help. I'm flagging them with this post.

PS, In my first post above I mentioned CVT problems. I had two CVTs fail and Mopar backed up the lifetime warranty at 110,000 miles and again at 270,000 miles. That cost them 10 grand on a vehicle I only paid $15K for. Unless there are unusual circumstances, I see no reason why they would duck out of the coverage.

I'd also suggest reading the fine print on that warranty agreement. You may be entitled to a free rental if they cannot effect a repair within so many days or can be refunded for the original invoice. Also double check that it is Mopar and not a third party. Sometimes a third party company is mentioned in the fine print and it's simply rebranded as Mopar. Regardless, what a horrible situation to be stuck in. Sorry to hear this is happening.

The dealership has admitted that the transmission is registered in the Mopar database. He just trying to figure out someway to void the warranty.

All the paperwork has been submitted. They know there is a problem with this transmission. 37 to 40 transmissions are on order. Has been this way since June.
Parts delay is probably because of the strike. They'll be awhile getting caught up.

Why would they do that? The dealership gets paid for doing warranty work. Easy money for them and it makes you a happy customer.

The shop didn't obtain prior authorization for what? The previous replacement? If you've got the paperwork, there's no way they can duck out. If there's a problem between the corp and the dealership, that's where Jeep Cares can intercede on your behalf.

When I reach out to jeep cares they always close the case. They always refer to the fact the jeep is out of warranty. They say I need to return the trans to the place I bought it. They ask if I bought it from a dealership. No they are an authorized wholesaler for mopar. It was sold with a certificate of warranty. They never will look into it any further than this

Then you'll have to refer to the warranty paperwork for info on how to process a claim, or call the wholesaler for support.

If the warranty says that you can take it to any Jeep dealer for full warranty service coverage including labor charges, then it should be honored and I would ask the wholesaler to get involved and help.

But if the warranty is only for the transmission itself and doesn't cover other costs such as labor, then I can see why the dealer and JeepCares are saying it's the responsibility of the purchaser to have the transmission removed and returned to the place where it was purchased for exchange under warranty.

Sounds like it's time to get a lawyer involved. Which succks even more but, they can not only help get it repaired but probably also get you damages for loss of use for the time period.

I’m sure that’s what they want. Paid 11,000 for the jeep 3,800 for the trans. That’s 14,800 all in right now so a lawyer?? What another 4 to 5 grand? 19,800 now for a care that’s valued at 4500. Which I owe more than that. 6 months without my car. What a **** show

I had to replace my manual 5 speed in my 2016. I first had problems at 52000 miles. The input and output shaft bearings were bad. Covered by warranty. The bearings went bad 52000 miles later. But transmission also had a crack in it and where input bearing set was wore out. So these transmissions wear out and a year ago when I needed one mopar had none. Found one remain. These do go bad enough so that they are difficult to find. I looked for months. Love my patriot so I fixed it. Good luck. They should honor the warranty.

Hi Brian,

Have you tried calling Mopar Vehicle Protection 1-855-460-4490 directly? They should be able to provide further guidance on your warranty coverage. Please send us a private message with any other questions or concerns.

Jeep Cares
they only deal with extended service contracts. Which I don’t have. I do have a transmission with a mopar warranty.

My jeep has been in the Jeep dealership since September 2023. The dealership is working with Mopar warranty, trying to figure out if they fix the transmission or replace it. in the meantime, I’ve been without a vehicle since July last year still making payments on it. Customer service can’t do anything about it. The dealership is dragging their feet. I’m totally screwed.

I’ve posted about my patriot in the shop for a trans.
it’s been in the dealership since September 2023. Was just informed July 3 2024 trans has been discontinued. I have a mopar warnty on the transmission because it was purchased by me as a reman. it failed and the dealership tried to get a new one under warranty but mopar has discontinued it. The transmission fits 2011-2017. Model years. I’ve been looks but can’t find any laws stating but I thought manufacturers where to provide parts for at least teen year.
