... will have a downsized 3.6 Pentastar engine. It will come equipped with 3.2 V6 with a nine speed transmission.

That's good news. I thought it was gonna come with a 4 banger in it. I do think, though, it will come without a true transfer case, similar to the Patriot/Compass.

Now, all I have to do is remember where I read this to get the link.

That sounds like a smart move from Jeep. I'm assuming with the 9-speed tranny, and much improved motor from the current model, it should get way better fuel economy numbers.

Well, according this article, it looks like the name of the new vehicle will be 'Liberty' or 'Cherokee'. How about some combition: Liberty--Cherokee Edition? Cherokee--Liberty Edition?

FWD with 4WD. Sounds similiar to the current Compass/Patriot line, but smaller???? Looks like it will have some off-road chomp to it.

"The Cherokee has a huge amount of equity. Liberty, I think, has built up some equity as well," Mr. Manley said. "I don't think we're going to invent a name."

This sounds like good news. One of the reasons that I never looked at a Liberty when I was searching for a replacement for my 98 Grand Cherokee was the horrible mileage the Liberty got. Thats why I ended up with a Patriot...

A small vehicle with a better powerplant. Looks to be an interesting couple months of anticipation.

My wife has an 09 and my son just bought the '12 Liberty Artic Edition. Both are really nice vehicles.

I am wondering if the Compass or Patriot replacements will receive the 3.2 as a performance option. The new Compass with 200+ HP would be fun!

The Liberty replacement will not have a traditional transfer case. If that is the case, it will resemble the Patriot/Compass. However, it will have more power and, probably, more torque.

For most people, since they won't use it off road, they will not be affected.

Keep in mind, this is all conjecture. None of this information is offical from Chrysler.

Jeep Cherokee (KL)

Launching in the spring of 2013 as a 2014 model the new Cherokee replaces both the Liberty and the Patriot in Jeep’s lineup. The Cherokee will seem pointless to some, being, in essence, a bigger, taller Compass, with similar styling and the same basic platform. Traditionally, Liberty/Cherokee have been a step higher than Patriot offroad; indications are that this Cherokee will be a step down, though Ralph Gilles and Sergio Marchionne have told the public to be impressed with its capability. Given the Jeep JJ, Chrysler might indeed hold surprises for us.

I really think no one knows what Chrysler is going to do with the Patriot or any other vehicle for that matter. I think they are going to axe the compass and rebuild the Patriot. The article I posted has some information on the Liberty, but seems like speculation to me. The author is also an idiot because he said that the picture above is a compass when it is obviously a Grand Cherokee. I can't wait till 2014 to see what Jeep's line up will be.

Not gonna lie...I'm looking into Patriots cause of they're durability, great gas mileage, nice interior space, and because they are damn good lookin. And I am going to be buying one in August (hopefully WhitePatriot21's), but I would definitely be interested in a new Liberty if it gets completely redesigned. I think it'd be cool to see a new line up for it...a Liberty Sport, Limited, and Cherokee model options. Where the Cherokee version would be the high end and 4x4 version and the Limited could just be the high end 2wd version. But thats just me dreaming. I love the Patriot mainly cause it reminds me so much of the old Cherokees but if the new Liberty gets any classic Cherokee looks, I may be in love :p

August 16, 2012 is the last day of production for the current generation Liberty. It will be a historical fact after that date.

Another sad day in History. I was looking forward to getting a New liberty in a year or two but now thats it's becoming a another run of mill Cross over AWD. I'll be looking towards a Wrangler.

b/c of the way the liberty is built now is why I bought one over 5 years ago.

They should just leave it alone as is...

Am I the only one who hates the exterior styling of the Liberty? The 1st gen wasn't that bad but I've never liked the new ones. I'm looking forward to seeing what Jeep does for it. I wish they'd make something around the current Liberty's size just with a 4cyl, 6cyl option and keep it's rwd or 4x4 drivetrains. I'm dreaming cause Jeep seems to shy away from multiple engine choices for their small suv's :(

Lets hope it just looks nothing like a Fiat! :D
