Hey everyone I recently purchased a 2011 Jeep Patriot 4x4 with about 50k original miles. It's the Trail Rated (Freedom Drive II Off road group version). Other than the basic (oil, brakes, filters, tires, etc) I'm looking for any and all advice as far as ongoing maintenance or anything I should be looking for or doing. Any tips are welcome! Thanks!

Rear Passenger door lock seems to be malfunctioning. All doors lock but if you walk up to that door from outside it opens and alarm goes off. Any tips would be welcome*

Welcome!

It has the CVT so it will need the transmission fluid and both filters changed every 30-50k miles depending on driving conditions to avoid premature wear and failure. If it hasn't already been done recently now would be a good time.

More info on it at the link below:

The PTU (transfer case) and RDU (rear diff.) may also need a fluid change.

Thank you for the swift response! Down the rabbit hole I go. Cheers

CVT for sure, and make sure the suspension is in good shape, that's a Chrysler group weak point. I don't know what to tell you about the door lock unless you want a recommendation to switch to manual locks all the way around, which is what mine came with. Maybe less convenient, but more Jeeplike and less to go wrong.

Should I have the hill assist on or off?
I'm not sure why you asked? Hill assist will disengage if you hold down the clutch for a few seconds. having driven manual trannies for all my life, I can't stand the device! IMHO, it makes it harder for someone who's learning to drive a manual. I suspect it's rough on the clutch plates, too.

Asking because there's a selection for "Hill assist" on or off located under personal settings. I have a 2011 Patriot Latitude with the CVT. I understand the manual transmission reasoning but curious about the Automatic.

From the 2010 Patriot manual:

Hill Start Assist (HSA) – Manual Transmission or Off-Road Package Only

The HSA system is designed to assist the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill. HSA will maintain the level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short period of time after the driver takes their foot off of the brake pedal. If the driver does not apply the throttle during this short period of time, the system will release brake pressure and the vehicle will roll down the hill. The system will release brake pressure in proportion to amount of throttle applied as the vehicle starts to move in the intended direction of travel.
HSA Activation Criteria
The following criteria must be met in order for HSA to activate:
• Vehicle must be stopped.
• Vehicle must be on a 7% grade or greater hill.
• Gear selection matches vehicle uphill direction (i.e., vehicle facing uphill is in forward gear; vehicle back- ing uphill is in REVERSE gear).

WARNING!
There may be situations on minor hills (i.e., less than 8%), with a loaded vehicle, or while pulling a trailer, when the system will not activate and slight rolling may occur. This could cause a collision with another vehicle or object. Always remember the driver is responsible for braking the vehicle.

You might want to get the build sheet for your Patriot to see if it has the HSA option:

I've got my build sheet and it is equipped with HSA. I have read the manual and understand, I guess I was just curious if it's something i should keep off seeing as I do mainly highway and city driving.
I didn't bother to turn mine off. Not an option I would have selected but if it's got it, so be it.
