I am a newbie. I just bought a 2007 Jeep Patriot. Trying to find different mods for it. But it seems like very slim pickings. Anybody modify their Patriot? Any suggestions on where to buy mods for it? Thank you very much for your time.

Welcome!

Not sure what "mods" you're looking for exactly, but over the years there have been several.

You can check out the build threads and see what some of our other members did:

Also, if you have the CVT be aware that the fluid and BOTH filters need to be changed no less than every 50k miles, despite what the manual says (120k).
Dealers will charge around $350 up for a drain and fill, a machine flush will be more and not necessary. Independent shops can be less, just make sure they are knowledgeable on CVT's.

You can change it yourself if you're mechanically inclined several of us have and not all are professional mechanics.
This thread will give you an idea of what's involved:

Welcome.
What are looking to mod? Interior, exterior, etc? As Sandstone mentioned, the build threads are a great way to get some inspiration
I am looking for a beefy rear bumper that has a swing arm for a spare tire. Looking for a winch bumper. Also some body armor. Is there anything bigger than a 2" lift kit for it? That is all I have been able to find. Not too sure what interior mods there are.

Two inches on lift is about the max, and even that small amount has been known to cause problems with drive line vibration, alignment, steering, handling, ride quality, etc. especially on older vehicles with worn drive line and suspension parts. I've listed the more common kits below; each has it's pros and cons, and those who liked them and those had problems with them. You might want to do a search on each to get an idea of what to expect. Not all of these kits fit all Patriots, so you'll have to check with each manufacturer to make sure it will work for you.

Stucoils

RRO

Rough Country

Daystar

Bluelake sells front and rear bumpers like you're looking for, but they're not cheap and there have been reports in the past of trouble getting them to fit properly:

Wham bumpers also makes them:

On adding heavy, "beefy" stuff like winch bumpers and body armor, keep in mind these vehicles have a light duty car suspension which can sag under heavy load (unless you add stiffer springs, etc.) and they don't have a lot of extra power / torque to handle the added weight with no way to easily add more power, mainly due to the limits of the transmissions.

Since the armor and beefier winch bumper and heavy duty rear bumper will be too much for the Jeep. Then what kind of recovery stuff is recommended for the patriot? Does anyone actually take them off road? I was hoping to use it off road.

Yes, people do off-road them!

My suggestion, start with a slightly larger, more aggressive tire, add a set of factory skid plates, factory tow hooks, and maybe a set of rock sliders.

That should get you in and out of a lot of places that are within the abilities of the vehicle, and you can judge whether or not the expense and effort of installing a lift will be worth it.

You didn't mention if you had the FDI or the FDII trail-rated version ("L Off Road" on the shifter console, lower differential gearing), but if you have the FDII you already have the hooks and skid plates.

To get an idea of the off-roading some have done, take a look at some of the adventure threads:

Here's one you might find interesting, though some of the pics are gone:

If you want a rear spare tire carrier or a winch without the heavy bumper this might work:
