Three different factory CVT Coolers - which do you have?

All Mk's with a CVT have a factory transmission cooler, but there are differences depending on options: No A/C, With A/C, and FDII.

I have the factory trailer tow package with the larger cooler (#3). I think this may have a lot to do with my CVT whining some, but never getting the over temp light or going into limp mode.

I'm curious if others with the factory trailer tow package have had problems with overheat/limp mode, or if it's mostly on vehicles with the smaller coolers.

1. No A/C = (Part# 68004055AA ; 68079416AA; 05191315AA) small cooler in front of radiator.

2. With A/C, W/O trailer tow (Part# 68004053AA ; 05191277AA) transmission cooler combined with A/C condenser core; trans cooler is on top.

Hmmmm hard to say... i have the tow package, with ac and i have a cooler that looks like number 1. Unless there is another one between that and the big one.... also get a whine when its hot (20c plus) but not have a warning or limp mode... also drive regularly 400km(250mile) trips bi weekly and 140km(87mile) the rest of the work week... at speeds typicaly 90km(55mph). Also i RARELY run the ac find the front window down and the rear passenger cracked about about 2inches creats a good cooling effect 40-55mph.

I have a 2014 FDII with A/C, and the "trailer tow prep group". Meaning I got a wiring harness, but had to install a hitch myself. I am not near my vehicle right now but I believe I have the second trans cooler based on my memory. I have a radiator, and then the A/C condenser combination trans cooler. I will double check this afternoon if I get a chance and correct/edit my post if needed.

Sandstone, do you not have A/C? If so where is you A/C condenser located?

Regardless, I have had the trans over temp issue. It was fixed with a trans service (fluid and filter change) at the dealership.

I was under the impression that the "factory tow package" included an ENGINE oil cooler, not a tranny cooler. Also a full size spare and the wiring harness--at least it did on my '08. Please someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

And, I like many others, found my trailer wiring harness neatly tucked away in the spare tire well, with the full size spare tire. There's a lot of confusion with the two prep package and the two package. One includes a MOPAR 1-1/2" hitch receiver, but no wiring--what's with that??

Yes, I have A/C. The A/C condenser is in front, then the trans cooler, then the radiator.

Yep, it's screwy.

Mine had the optional 28B package, which came with the harness inside the full size spare (but no hitch receiver),and the engine oil cooler.

These items are specifically mentioned on the Monroney sheet under the FDII off-road group, but nothing is said anywhere about the larger trans. cooler.

Sooo afyer looking again i have a rad in front of tge big rad roughly the same size as the engine rad. Has two connection top left and 2 lower right. Cant gey a good pic of it

Yep, that sounds like the big cooler, though mine has both connections on the drivers side, one up towards the top and one lower. I tried taking pics, but couldn't get a good one either.

OK. I looked last night while doing an oil change. I have three separate "cooling cores" stacked in front of each other in front of the cooling fans. The farthest back is the radiator, in front of that is a trans cooler with connections from the trans thermostat housing, then in front of that is the smallest of the three and is the A/C condenser. So, it appears that I do have the largest trans cooler installed from the factory, and I did experience the trans over temp light.
I took a picture from the bottom looking up under the front Fascia. It is the easiest place to get a photo of the three independent "cores".
