Suggest a Tire Inflator

Most of my off-roading will be in a beach environment. In the event I have to air down, I want to be equipped with a decent inflator. I currently have a $10 WalMart special.

With size, price, and speed being the main factors, what would you pick up? Ideally I want it to be fast at airing up the tires, easy to store in the cargo area, and not break the bank.

Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about pumps and/or CO2 tanks, or did you mean valve/gauges?

I bought a Slime kit with a pump a while back. Does the job, stores well, but slow.

Unfortunately, slow is pretty much the case with most if not all the ones powered from the cig socket. Cig socket can't supply enough current to run a bigger faster pump without blowing the fuse.

The pumps that hook directly to the battery are usually faster.

I know a few people who had these, and they seemed to do pretty good. More expensive, has to connect to the battery, but airs up fairly quick.

And CO2 tanks are the fastest and quietest of all. :D

Seems like having to connect it to the battery would negate any speed gained over the el cheapo 12V units.

This portable Ryobi 18V system looks pretty cool, and it doesn't have to be plugged in anywhere. It's part of the Ryobi/One system with about a gazillion tools that all use the same 18V batteries. Another benefit is you can set the desired PSI and it stops automatically when it reaches that figure. It inflates and deflates.

I've got a Viair 88p, the battery hook up doesn't take long at all and the speed compared to a power outlet type is amazing.

as somebody who regularly deflates and inflates tires, i HIGHLY recommend one off the battery, they have their own fuse, and if it pops for any reason, you can replace it in a flash, cig ones can be a royal pain to do, and can be buried under the dash. They are also much faster. I could fill 8 tires in the time it takes one of the cig ones to fill 1 tire (I've done it more than once). as stated above, the one on amazon is one I've used for quite a while and have found it to be reliable:

another good option is this one that I just recently got:

Which is a bit nicer and a bit faster for a bit more money.
