raise passenger seat 3/4 inch

I was tired of sitting so low in the passenger seat so I made an adjustment that worked out pretty nicely. I removed the seat and inserted a large washer and a 1/2 inch spacer under each corner of the seat mount and re-installed the seat. You cannot increase the height of the seat more than 3/4 inch because the lenght of the factory bolts limit you.

I tried longer bolts but i was unable to get them started. The threads were the same but i just had a problem getting them started. you may notice that the end of the original bolt is tapered and that may be the issue.

I've done the same thing on many of my Jeeps. It is hard to believe how much difference 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch can make.

When sitting in the seat you would think that it is 3 inches lower that the drivers side. I used a level to measure the difference and it was just under an inch. I agree that 3/4 makes a big difference.

This post is so true. :hammertime:

They make a thing called a "bolt connector". It is a hex barrel thing (essentially a thick nut) with female threads all the way thru. That way you can easily "extend" the lenght of the bolt to accomplish what you need.

This is an ancient thread but for the sake of congruity it's worth an update. I have a basic Patriot Sport with non-height adjustable seats. They sucked.

So today I raised the front of my seats 0.75 inches and the rear of the seats 1.5 inches. It is now far more comfortable, I have a much better view (even though I'm already 6'1") and I don't feel like I'm sinking into the seat. The pressure is even across my rear end and legs.

The bolt thread is metric. I used two zinc plated 10M-1.50 x 60mm hex bolts for the rear of the seat with two paired 0.75 inch spacers (each spacer made up of ten 3/8" flat washers taped together with a few wraps of electrical tape), and the factory hex bolts for the front of the seat using a single 0.75 inch spacer with each bolt.

I may need to move my rearview mirror up an inch since it causes a small blind spot now.

I have no guarantees on how this setup will hold up in a crash test so as always you're a test dummy if you're taking advice off the internet :)

As long as your bolts are more than two threads into the mounting hole..that is long enough to really bite(edit to say I think your bolt should be well and truly into the threaded part, saying two threads was both early morning posting and a bit facetious.) AND your spacers are sitting on metal and not the carpeting my opinion is I will be fine.

I'm just under 6' and it made a big difference to me...I really don't care for that down low, laid back driving position. There are real reasons long distance bus drivers and over the road truckers sit at the wheel the way they do.

Great thread guys I'm looking to lift my seats because i just installed the RRO lift. Do you guys have any pictures of the spacers you used and height difference in the seats? Thanks i know the thread is old so any reply is appreciated!

They make a "coupling nut" that's about 3/4" long with the same threads on each end--which will allow you to extend that bolt from the floor. Remember tho, I believe those seat bolts are metric, so you'll need to go to an auto parts store, rather than your neighborhood hardware store...

I did this to my 2014 Jeep Patriot. Started with the driver's seat and then moved to passenger after I loved the driver's seat and felt like a shrimp in the passenger seat so got that one done (which I had plan on doing anyways):pepper:

I did this in place of lifting the jeep completely because I heard of too many issues with the lifting; mainly with alignments.

I used 60mm class 10.9 10mm x 1.5 bolts and 3/8 x 1-1/2 fender washers to raise my seat. Makes a nice difference. Sometimes I felt like I was sitting in a hole before. I'd be leery of the strength of a coupling nut.

The changes raised the seat about an inch. I fooled around with it quite a few times to get the height right. Even now I may decide to lower it by 1 or 2 mm.

My friend machined some polymer blocks for me that worked great. I did 1 inch in the back and 3/4 inch in the front. I really like it. I don't seem to be sitting "down into" the vehicle as much anymore. The blocks are blue in the photo.

Based on some of the replies we can assume that only the driver's side seat has the height adjustment option. I have a Sport with this option. You may be able to find a seat in a salvage yard with it.

Not in my Patriot but in my old Cherokee I just got a nice wedge pillow. Installed it in about 2 seconds. OK, I'm a cheap date I realize. That Cherokee is rusting away in a junkyard somewhere, but my cat is still using the pillow. :D
