Do you use the Rain-X additive in your washer fluid? It seems to work pretty well in that you can skip using your wipers in the rain. :D

I've used it in the past, but eventually, I always get smearing at night. That stuff is like crack cocaine for your windshield. Once you start using it you have to always make sure you've got some on hand. It's a shame because when it's on there and working well, it is fantastically clear in the rain.

I see in some auto service locations that you can now by wiper blades and washer fluid made by Rain-X.....so what's up with that??

I will say that when used regularly, Rain-X will eliminate the need for intermittant wipers, but not for gully-washers. I used this on my 200+ mph airplane's wind screen (where we don't have wipers...) and found it did a great job in all rain storms from taxiing to cruise flight and also made such a slippery surface, that few bugs stuck!

Been using Rain-X washer fluid for over a year

Love it. Use on all 4 vehicles. Got rid of one of the convertibles and bought a new Chevy cobalt so putting the rainx in this weekend.

I had the Rain X Latitudes on my Compass - they sucked after about 4-5 months (streaking etc) and I have since replaced them with Bosch ICONs - but I love the Rain X washer fluid but I have noticed it leaves streak marks on the paint where it runs off (especially the liftgate when the rear wiper runs)

I'm a big Rain-X fan. Especially after I found the best way to eliminate the streaking when applying it is to use 2, yes 2 micro fiber towels. I also use the washer fluid. Another great product is REJEX by Corrosion-X. Little more labor intensive though. For wiper blades its the Michelin line for me. Really like them for the lack of steaking and complete coverage. The triple edge really sucked. Couldn't get them to stop skipping across the windshield. JMNSHO ;) Ric

use rain-x windshield washer, think it works great, just don't like the stains/streaks it leaves behind on the paint where it runs off the windshiled, tolerated on my other car which was light in color, not sure if I will continue to use on my blackberry pearl jeep, need to see how bad the streaks show. ;-)

I'm a new member and so am poking around, reading all old posts...lots of good stuff.

Anyway, Rain X leaves streaks...this stuff doesn't:

Spray it on a clean, wet windshield and you never have to use your wipers again!

I can run up on a loaded logging truck, pull out to pass, pass and switch lanes back with out using wipers. Logging trucks throw a trail of spume so hard some folks won't pass them in the rain at all, even on a four lane divided highway.

This stuff works, with zero disadvantages that I can think of. I travel the north Island a lot and I go through maybe a can and a half per season.

Even at low speed, I can use intermittent when everyone else is on full wipe.

You get to the point you dislike turning the wipers on, like its a failure on your part or something, lol.

Try a can.

I just applied it for the first time a few weeks back. It has definitely helped so far. But I have the rain-x wipers which were just the cheapest at auto zone. OMG these wipers suck. Its as if there is not enough pressure holding them in place so it completely leaves dirty windshield in my direct field of vision. I will be replacing them with something better in the next few days.

I've been using the Rain-X solution since the 90s and love the stuff. With a sloping windshield, the rain blows right off if you're traveling at a reasonable speed. Danger is, visibility is so good, you can overdrive your tires in the rain.

Wifey, however does not like it. She drives a Wrangler, and the Wrangler has a steeper windshield angle than most vehicles and the water just tends to lay there obscuring vision.

I've never tried the w/s/w fluid. Heard that it stains the paint, so haven't risked it. No need to. The traditional Rain-X is so easy to apply. Invest about 10 minutes a couple times a year and you're good to go.

Oh, if you follow the directions, you should wet the windshield after treating it, and wipe it down with a paper towel. I don't experience any night visibility problems.

I use it religiously... Spray on Rain X treatment works great for me... never have tried the additive...
kind of seems like a waste if I'm already Xing my windows once every month or so...

What I can say about it as far as applying... you need to put on 2 coats minimum in circular overlapping motion... to ensure complete coverage.

Allow to dry.

Then wipe windows down with application towel that has been rinsed out a couple of times in water.

Allow to dry.

Then buff the window with clean dry lint free towel.
I prefer to use a micro fiber towel...

If you take your time....
NO STREAKS!

FYI
next application will also be easier...

the 1st time out that I use rain x on a windshield. I deep clean the shield. I personally use Bar Keepers Friend or BonAmi. They do not scratch and do a great job cleaning off all the grim off the windshield.

Had Rain-X Latitudes on my old Grand Cherokee. They worked good for awhile. Smooth, quiet, streak-free. Then they started getting noisy, squeaking after 4-5 months or so, and left one bead line of water across the windshield when on. Not really a major reduction in visibility, but annoying. Even more so was the noise, but I have a real personal issue against wiper squeaking
