Patriot Headlight Not Working / Ground Issue

Like many of you I have had trouble with my TIPM causing various lights to not operate. I have previously had my Jeep dealer replace the TIPM and this fixed the issues. Recently my drivers side headlamp would not work so I thought that my TIPM had gone bad again. I decided to buy a used TIPM off of eBay and replace it myself. This did not fix the problem. I then thought about the problem some more. It would be very unlikely that two TIPMs would have the same failure mode. I then looked deeper in this forum and found references to bad grounds causing all kinds of electrical issues. I removed the headlamp plug and used my VOM to measure resistance from the middle connection (ground) to the chassis ground. It showed open. I then spliced a wire from the middle of the plug and connected it to the chassis ground. Low and behold the headlight now works.

A headlight not working could be the bulb, a bad socket, a broken wire at the socket, the connection at the TIPM, a bad TIPM or the ground.

The fix for the ground is cutting the eyelet off, stripping the wires to good metal, then adding a new eyelet. More info at the link below:
