Ok, apologies up front if this has already been discussed extensively. I did a couple of searches but didn't come up with any existing threads.

Am I correct to say the Patriot is the same chasis/drivetrain as the Dodge Caliber and Mitsubishi Outlander? Some internet research I did seemed to indicate that. My window sticker also shows the parts content as 66% US/Canada. Is the other 34% Mitsu. parts?

just curious more than anything.

thanks,
Rob

Officially, Caliber = PM and Patriot/Compass = MK platform codes. Slightly different, but mostly the same. They are assembled at the same plant in IL. I don't know much bout the outlander. I thought the Lancer is based on the Caliber platform and the Outlander is based on the Lancer. Maybe 2nd cousins.

from a "parts" standpoint, NO....there are NO "Mitsubishi" parts used on the PM or MK platforms. however, i can't speak for the Outlander using PM/MK parts.....;)

I do know the Jatco CVT tranny is the exact same one that is in the Nissan Rogue.

....as well as many other vehicles.:icon_rolleyes:

The Outlander is based on the GS platform, which was jointly developed Mitsubishi and Chrysler (then DaimlerChrysler). Chrysler "made substantial changes to the platform" and came up with the PM and MK platforms. The Patriot and Compass are on the MK platform and the Caliber is on the PM platform. So, yes, they're all related... but it might be a stretch to say they're all built on the same platform. More details at the Wikipedia GS platform page.

actually the Lancer a GS platform uses the so similar suspension parts as the Caliber that they are comletely interchangeable. Since the Caliber and the Patriot/Compass suspensions are interchangeable. Then using the rule of relativity yes the parts may not be identicle for the suspensions but they are interchangeable between the Outlander, Compass, Caliber, Patriot, Lancer, Avenger, Sebring, and oh yes the new Journey... From suspension arms to strut braces... the main differences in the chassis is wheel base and unibody design, not moving parts.

There was an early internet rumor that the Orange SEMA Patriot used Lancer Coilovers, but that has never been proven correct or not with photos or otherwise.

Wow! that was a big can of worms!!! :wow:

Thanks for all the great posts. I understand now, it's a clear as mud. :D

I guess that's the kind of automotive "family-tree" you get as a result of corporate partnerships and "world sourcing".

in any case, I realy like my Patriot and I'm looking forward to a few mods and racking up the miles. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Thanks!

No Problem Rob. Hopefully we see you in the near future posting pics of your own Patriot.

Its this kind of partnership/family tree that allows the vehicles prices to stay as low as they are. Where else will you find such a worthy vehicle for such a low price... not to mention get such unbelievablly great gas mileage too boot.
