Patriot and Compass will be no more...

Looks like the new overlord, as decreed by BO, has both the Patriot and the Compass slated to be terminated!

This is very sad news coming in 2012. It has nothing to do with thier ability or quality or market share... well, the market share is part of it. See the selling out of America and Jeep to Fiat means they need to remove the more capible and less expensive small 4x4s from the market so they can sell their new one.

This 'phasing' out of the Patriot and Compass will happen a year after the Fiat heap is forced down our throats. That way they can say.. there just wasn't enough sales for them once the new one was being sold.

The Fiat-Chrysler alliance is planning to launch a new model in
2011 called the Jeep Panda and based on the Fiat Panda Cross.

...It will be joined by the new Jeep Panda, also due in mid-2011 and based on the Fiat Panda Cross, which shares its compact underpinnings with the Fiat 500. Fiat plans to market the Jeep Panda in global markets and anticipates annual sales volume of 200,000 units.

In the meantime, Fiat is expected to cease production of the Jeep Patriot and Compass in 2012...
I would love to inoccently believe that its a level playing field where sales rule the make... I see it is much more likely that this is exactly the course they have planned... intro their new 4-door smart car and the next year kill of the real Jeeps so you have no choice but to buy what's left over.

Speculation..rumors...speculation...rumors.

this will go on for some time now.

Fiat/Chrysler didn´t posted any shedule right now.

Don´t believe everything what an author might guess.

when the time comes Fiat/Chrysler will post news about the future lineup.

And the small Panda (half the size of the Pat) will not be the replacement of the Patriot!

I don´t know a (Fiat) platform right now wich can be used as Patriot replacement.

even the Sedici is too small and i don´t think that the alfa 169 platform can be used as SUV because it´s more sporty.

As I have stated before!!--The Panda in whatever form , is a small, cramped shopping car in the Super Mini segment of the market. Its build quality is not bad , but it has a dubious reliability record. It certainly is no direct replacement for the Patriot or the Compass. In the UK Fiat has just come LAST AGAIN !!! in the JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey. Enough Said!!!

Need a little more proof this is how it will go down?!?!? OK...

how about:

International forecasting firm IHS Global Insight has released a detailed report on how it thinks the Chrysler/Fiat alliance will shake out over the new few years...
...- Also being produced in Toluca on the 169 platform will be the Jeep Panda. Production will begin in July 2011, with expected volumes of 35,000 units per year. The Jeep Panda will be based on the Fiat Panda Cross that is sold worldwide with annual volume of 200,000 units in 2009...
...Jeep-badged Panda debuts in July of 2011...
...Production and sales of the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot will end in 2012...

I think it very unlikely that any serious consideration is being given just yet to exactly what Fiat are going to market. Before any decisions regarding models are taken Fiat are going to do some research among their new customer base. That's yous Yanks I'm talking about here; you're the biggest car market in the world. I cannot, in my wildest flight of fantasy see any of my family or friends down in the Lone Star State rushing out to buy one of those things; I really can't. Jayzes, we don't even buy them in any number over here in Europe. Can you picture some Brit, who's thinking about changing his Range Rover, Freelander or Discovery even contemplating putting one of those Panda things down on his shopping list?
If Fiat have already given some impetus to this move to this then it shows that, like Chrysler, they are well out of touch with their potential market.

By 2012, the Patriot will have been on the market for 6 years. Likely time to re-do a new version, even if it is under the old Chrysler. As we move to a more fuel efficient world of new engines from Chrysler/Fiat. I would predict that a bastardized "Patriot" will emerge from it. As the public love the all purpose SUV too much for them to dump this market. It will likely get a new name.

I would just add the same that the current MK platform will be at the end of the lifetime after 6 years.
So there would be a Patriot replacement anyway.
Well noone knows now if the new one will be called Patriot or not.

Just rumors. They may be based on some fact and some evidence, but there is a lot of conjecture.

The IHS Global Insight group is just an economic forcasting company. Paid to speculate.

But, put yourself in FIAT's position. You sell small cars. You're good at it (at least YOU think so). You buy enough of Chrysler to get some say in what gets made. The Jeep name plate is arguably the most valuable nameplate for its reputation alone. And the Patriot doesn't fit the traditional Jeep mold that created that reputation. So it is easy to see how a non-Jeep person could easily cut the Patriot, Compass, Liberty, etc. While keeping everything with solid axles, high torque, aggressive off-road styling.

So, if we want the Patriot to live on, a petition just might be the way to go. I'd definitely sign one.

If the Patriot, which at least looks like a Jeep is not selling more than 5000/month (its best month)...

how could Fiat possibly believe that the Panda, which is significantly smaller and less Jeepish than the Patriot, would be a "big" seller?

I don't see how it would make sense for them to cut a vehicle the Patriot's size. It is necessary due to current CAFE and will be even more important under tighter MPG figures.

Obviously, the Commander is already dead. So right now you have...
small - Patriot/Compass
med - Wrangler, Liberty
large - GC, Unlimited

How do you hack small for compact and be able to keep either of the bigs to meet MPG? You would really need to have (1) compact, (1) small, (1) med, (1) large: Panda, Patriot, Wrangler, GC

that would suck - Glad I bought mine already.

I seem to be ending up with the obsolete vehicles....got my Commander in '06, now they're done. I started out looking for a GC, but the newer design with the chopped roofline, my head was touching the roof liner (I'm only 6'2). They persuaded me to drive a Commander and I was sold. Tons of head and shoulder room, smoother ride. Too bad they didn't sell more of them - it's really too bad the GC doesn't have more head room.

Patriot is the same way - plenty of head room, nice ride, + good mpg and manageable size.

It's not you or i that is buying obsolete vehicles, as i agree with you on both the Patriot & the Commander. (I love the Commander, & think the world of it; it is easily better than the Mercedes ML, BMW X5 or even the Porsche Cayenne) But it came into the market way too late; plus people that are buying the European Premium SUVs are not looking or shopping in your local Jeep Dealers.

The issue is we are being told the "Market is changing", we do not need these bigger is better vehicles; we need to believe smaller is better.
We need Fiat's leaky aluminum engines & rust bucket bodies.

It's sad that we will loose our identity as the sell out continues.

well unfortunately this settles it right now for me then. i was hoping that Jeep would have a new Patriot model for when i will be in the market for a new vehicle (in 1 1/2 years). but if they are going to be eliminating it completely then there is no way in hell i will be buying a model that's planned to be discontinued. i will have to weight my options on what Jeep has to offer as far as new models are concerned. hopefully they have something comparable that's NOT the Jeep Phoenix / Fit Panda. i refuse to ever step foot in something as hideous as that...

what a disappointment

why not? My 96 S10 Jimmy was discontinued, but I can still get parts/service.

Compass has been selling less than 1,000 a month. Patriot at best was selling 7,000+ which is pretty good, but has since sunk down to the 2,000 level.

In my opinion the poor interior and lack luster performance of the 2007 and 2008 models did them in. Word of mouth just killed them. People bought into it for a while but sales really tapered off. The 2009 interior re-do was well done but too late.

It's a shame, because I think the idea of the Patriot had potential. It should have come standard with 10 in of ground clearance and there should have been a non-CVT automatic option, or better yet a diesel. Should have started it out with the interior quality of the 2009 and make 4X4 standard (something that should be common to all Jeeps). The IS is fine, it needs to compete on-road with the Rav4/ CRV etc. so it at least needed to be competitive there.

As for signing a petition, that's all well and good, but the only thing that they care about is sales figures. You want them to keep it? Go buy another one.

good point. as far as who to write the petition to...make sure you name the following entities:

-The "New" Chrysler Corporation
-Fiat (make sure you translate the letter into Italian)
-U.S. Federal Government (Car Czar, U.S. Treasury, President Obama, etc...)
-UAW
-Any remaining stockholders

the list goes on..............................

59 mpg's? what source does this article use to get that number? is this with a diesel engine?

there is no way that can be true. look at the aerodynamics of the thing. acceleration alone with only a 1.3L engine will SLAUGHTER mpg's. hmmm...

The Patriot isn't going anywhere-anybody else remember that the Patriot EV is one of Chrysler's new EV fleet due to be all launched by 2013 (Along with the Town and Country, Wrangler, 200C and that Viper look-alike)?

I doubt the Patriot is going anywhere. Sales are picking up-relatively speaking, rather they're not falling as fast as others, and they're emerging from the initial poor reviews of the '07 and '08 models to get favorably compared, even by non-Jeepers, to the competition. The Liberty was the same way-the first few years looked bad, but once it hit its stride, it's doing really well.

And take a look at the sales trend of the Patriot-its sales drop was right in line with gas prices. When it starts pushing $3/Gal again, the Patriot will get a whole lot more attractive.

Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Average here is $0.66/lit (why we sell per liter, I do not know). Multiply that by 3.8 and thats like...
