what oil should i use regular or synthetic

Your question is a lot like "which brand of tires should I buy?" I've always used conventional in my Patriot and every other vehicle I've owned going back to 1971. I've never had an engine failure in some 20+ vehicles.

Besides my Patriot, I also have a 2019 Compass that requires synthetic oil so that's what it gets. The required oil is virtually water (0w-20) and they tell me that conventional oil can't be made that thin. In the eternal scheme of things, I don't think synthetic is worth the extra money. Others insist that synthetic lasts longer, etc. FWIW.

Either conventional or synthetic is fine. The main thing is to keep up on the changes.

I started out with conventional, now I use Mobil 1 extended from Walmart for around $25/ 5qt jug. With the $12 rebate from Mobil, it's about the same cost per quart as Walmart Supertech conventional.

Either conventional OR synthetic will lubricate and properly protect your engine when changed at the recommended intervals. Synthetic oils are known to have longer lifespans but if your JEEP gets the regular service change intervals and only subject to regular driving at regular temperature zones, I do not think you will reap any additional benefits of synthetic oils.

If your JEEP is used for heavy off-roading and/or driven in harsh cold/hot weather conditions, synthetic oils would be preferred. Synthetic oils flow do better at low temperatures and stays more consistent as it ages and cooks inside the engine.

In regards to pricing differences, with oil prices creeping higher and higher, the conventional oil prices are catching up to synthetic oil prices. You can get a gallon of Walmart Supertech full synthetic oil for $15-$16 vs conventional oils at $13-$14. The Walmart Supertech synthetic oils are just as good as any name brand synthetic oil.

So for the minimal difference in price, if it gives you peace of mind and let’s you sleep better at night, fill it up with synthetic.

I have used synthetic since the first oil change. I am at 96k miles and the engine does not burn a single drop of oil.

The key is to change it regularly at the service intervals and either type of oil will do its job.
