It's done! :pepper:

Today, I finished installing my new Head Unit and it sounds AWESOME. Of course, that was after I found the `LOUD`button hidden in the Menu.

JVC KD-X50BT - $117 (Best Buy)
08-2010 wire harness - $7.98 (eBay) http://www.ebay.ca/itm/JEEP-Radio-W...rts_Accessories&fits=Make:Jeep|Model:Patriot&hash=item588bf684c0#ht_2447wt_1163
Metra 99-6511 - $18.99 (eBay) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Metra-99-65..._Car_Audio_Video_Dashboard_Installation_Kits&hash=item5ae3bc0245#ht_2660wt_1140
Antenna Adapter - $16 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Aftermarket Radio Antenna Adapter
2x GTO928 6x9 speakers - $100 (Used on Kijiji)
Bazooka CSA150.1 250 watt Sub amplifier (from my last car)
MTX Thunder TC510 Sub-woofer (from my last car)

My Patriot came with the most basic version of the RES Media Center that Mopar makes so I decided to beef it up a bit.
After reading up on many different threads here, about the CANBUS system and the advice given by n4cr2k here: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showpost.php?p=259075&postcount=20,
I went ahead and ordered the cheap harness.

I'd say it took me about 12 hours to get the whole thing completed (including running the wires for the Sub, power from the battery). I'm sure there's many more hours I could add if I included the time I spent shopping and researching.

I got started here: "How to remove 2012 Radio Bezel" by dB-SPl :notworthy:

Here are some pictures...

Here's what I mean by basic RES Media Center 130:

Here`s a view of the back connector:

The wires:

The wiring harness from eBay:

Here`s the 08-2010 wire harness color code, I couldn't find this online and nothing came in the package:

Image

Soldering the wires was pretty easy, hadn't done that for a while...

Once all the speaker wires were connected, the thing didn't look as scary...

After that, it was Yellow to Yellow, Black to Black and ignored the Blue wire on the harness (blue = powering the switch for power antenna).

I got the Accessory 12V from the lighter just under the stereo...

Here`s where I mounted the mic for the speakerphone:

Found the perfect hiding spot for the sub amp:

The sub... to think, I almost got rid of it last year

You gotta be careful with boosting features such as "loud" or "powerful". They'll boost certain frequencies into a dirty or clipped signal. This is probably the most common cause of equipment failure. Coils don't take very well to square waves.

Thanks. I've done allot of electronics in my earlier days (electronics eng. technician in college, repaired electronics for a few years). I know the importance of making good connections... it's where most of the problems start.

Looks great, be careful with the Loudness

Aside from muddying the sound at moderate to higher volumes db is definitely right about long term damage to the voice coils if you leave it on. Its only meant to boost the mid and lows when the volume is low. Better to just add a 4 channel amp if you want everything louder.

Response to email question I received...

Hi Alex,

I didn't need that information so I don't have it (Jeep Speakers color code),
all I needed was the color code for the harness I bought.

However, I pasted 2 of the pictures I took together and if we were to line
up the connectors, the wire designation transfers to the other side...
(hummm he sais...)

Take a look at the attachment, the Jeep connector is on the left side, the
harness is on the right side.

As for which colors they are, I can't help you there. I'm color blind so I
usually depend on my wife to help me.

Claude.

"12v Accessory" could mean many things I guess but in this case, it refers to the a +12v you apply to the H.U. to tell it that the Vehicle is On.

Your Amp doesn't get it's power from here, it gets it through a Big Ass cable you run direct from the battery.

Using this wiring harness, it didn't effect the door chimes or anything at all did it? Cause I was told I need an $80 wiring harness and I can't figure out why.

I used a $15 harness from walmart, didnt effect the chime, but I also have an 08. I think the only time chime is effected is when it is produced through the speakers, like on a lot of GM vehicles. open your door, see if it chimes through the speakers, or under the dash. if it's under the dash, I see no reason as to why the stereo would effect it.

most places will tell you that you need an $80 interface because the interface communicates with the vehicle and tells the radio when to turn on and turn off.
The OP did a "hardwire" for the switched 12v turn-on which in our case is easily accomplished by tapping into the cig lighter because it's also switched (turned on and off by the key.)

for steering wheel controls, you will need an interface. It's a $50 part (give or take) with 4 or 5 wires to connect to the vehicle/aftermarket radio

As stated above, most door chimes controlled through the radio were in General Motors Vehicles.

And to the person asking about weird noise by routing the ACC wire to the amp, I'm assuming you were talking about the turn-on wire for the amp, not the main constant power? You could get a hiss known as "ground-loop noise" if you use the cig lighter to turn on an amp. They have different grounding points which can allow electricity to flow between the devices and come out as noise in the speakers connected to the amplifier. In the OP's case, he probably used the "remote turn-on" output from his new JVC radio to turn his amp on. That way the amp goes on and off with the radio, not the key.

Nice install and nice write-up! You probably couldn't find the wiring diagram for the aftermarket harness because it's standard colors. If you search CEA standard wire colors you might find it easily
