Hello,

I have one here you all...

I own a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude Edition 2.5L. My check engine light is on and has been coded. The codes are P0302 & P000A. The engine rough idles and takes awhile to accelerate. When at idle the engine can occasionally die. After engine dies, car will just turn over but not start. Pulling both connections on the PCM, waiting a few minutes, reconnection, engine will start. Sometimes the dash lights and headlights flicker while idle, until you accelerate then flickering stops.

Things I have tried/verified.
  • All coil packs and spark plugs have been replaced.
  • Timing chain is tight and has no slack or visible damage.
  • Engine has oil (does need to be changed).
  • New battery and contacts clean.
  • Camshaft and crankshaft positions sensors changed in the past year.

I have not checked the fuel injectors to rule them out yet. I am considering its a bad PCM, but I don't want to sped $200+ on part that could very well not be it.

Thanks in advance!

A better approach would be to take the battery cables loose, touch them together and hold for 15 min, then reconnect and try to start.

Disconnecting the PCM connectors with the battery still connected could cause damage.
If you haven't already, check the pins on those connectors and make sure none are bent, and the connectors seat properly.

Since you're having lights flickering, I'd get the alternator checked. If the alternator and it's wiring / connections check out (including to the PCM), I'd get the PCM checked since it acts as the voltage regulator for the alternator.

You might also check the engine bay grounds on the drivers side; the PCM uses them.
They can develop corrosion at the eyelet crimp which can cause all kinds of issues.

If there's corrosion present the fix is cutting off the old eyelet, stripping the wires to good metal, and adding another eyelet.

P000A is Camshaft A slow response. The sensor only reads the position, but the vvt solenoid is what sets the position. Check the intake vvt solenoid, it could be bad, or the screens clogged.
