Maybe an alternator?

Hi there all. I’m hoping someone can give me some insight as I’ve had a weird sequence of events today.

Ill start by saying I’ve had a new battery fitted 4/5 months ago (Bosch).

so I started my car this afternoon For the first time today around 3PM, no problems. Drove for 5 mins to fuel up. Once fuelled up, the car battery was dead. I then got someone to jump me.

As I thought that was already weird, I was scared to turn the car off so went for a 20 mins drive, left the car idling for 15 mins whilst the wife went into the shop, drove for another 5 mins, try em left it idling for another 15 mins (shops again) before driving 5 mins home.

on the way home, my handbreak sign started to show then disappear after 30 seconds, but handbreak was fully down (this happened twice), then I noticed my rev counter turning off and on (like a 0.5 sec blink) once I pressed down on the gas (this happened 3 times) Once I parked up, I figured I’d test it again to see if the car would turn on. Turned it off, then tried to start again….car was completely dead. Like never before. Not a single light, nothing on dash, interior light, crank….just dead, nothing.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is the alternator, can you sum up how hard of a job it is to do yourself? Thanks

I'd get the battery and the alternator checked / tested.
I've had new batteries fail in less than a year. New doesn't always mean good.

Check the battery cables, make sure they're clean and tight.

Check the battery connection at the starter, the alternator uses that same connection and sometimes it corrodes and falls apart.

Changing the alternator isn't easy, you have to take the a/c compressor loose to get it out.
There are youtubes around on it.
