Hello Experts!

I have recently bought a Jeep Patriot 2008 4x4 with 165K Miles on it. It came with a transmission problem and being scanned I got the following codes:
1. U1146
2. P0700
3. P161B
4. P1607

It runs at locked speed, no more than 25Mph and when moving from P to D the motor and trans shakes.
But suddenly I started the car and moved to D and no felt the motor shake, then I tested the Auto Stick and it worked, I ran the car normally in D and also using Auto Stick and everything worked fine, then after restarting the motor it gave the failure again.

Please help me. If some one have experience the same problems?
How can this be fixed.?
Should I service the transmission. change CVT oil and filter?

Thanks in advance.

If the fluid has never been changed, you'd be worse off changing it by now, from what I've heard. I'm not familiar with those codes, or even if it's just the CVT, but have a trusted third-party mechanic have a look at it. Ask them about the codes. It probably needs a new CVT, in which case you can get a used one decently cheap, possibly with a good warranty, if you look hard enough.

If you get another CVT in good condition, make sure to change the fluid every 60k miles or less to avoid further problems.

Well, I'm no expert, but . . .

Are you the original owner? Do you have the lifetime warranty? It was free when I bought my Patriot. So long as you did the maintenance it may be covered. The CVT in my '08 Patriot failed at 110,000 miles, but I am the original owner it was completely covered under the lifetime warranty. I now have more miles on the replacement than the original.

My symptoms were not at all like yours. Mine just began to hum, but threw no codes.

Rosso gives good advice. If you chose to find a used CVT in a junkyard, be sure it is from a wreck, and not from a Patriot someone junked because the CVT was blown.

Jeep will not repair a CVT, only replace it. However Nissan uses the same CVT and a Nissan dealer (or independent shop) may be able to repair it and that will be a lot cheaper than buying a brand new transmission.

OP says "recently bought", and I'm guessing no Jeep dealer had a Patriot THAT long, haha. Especially with cash for clunkers in '09.

Hello!

I imported the car from US, and it came with that problem, some mechanics in Honduras have told me to replace the transmission is the only and best solution, however I am confused as I drove the car normally after presenting the fault. So the fault is not always present.

Thanks.

Sounds like it might be a bad electrical connection or bad control module.
