Ok. I'm stumped right now. I've added led bulbs to my interior dome lights and now after 5 months of having them in. All my dome lights are on but dim while lights are off and vehicle running even in accessory. But when the ignition timer cuts off the lights go off. Is anyone else having this issue or maybe tell me what is the issue and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

I don't use led interior bulbs, but my guess is it may be due a small voltage always being present when the key is on so the system can check for shorts to ground (and set a code if there's a fault), since it's driven by the cluster electronics and there's no direct fuse protection.

There's enough voltage to bias the led into conduction (dimly lit), but too little to push enough current to turn on a standard bulb.

If you take the bulb out and measure across the socket contacts when the key is on and then off (wait for other lights to go out) that should give you an idea.

You could also put the old bulb back in and see whether or not it lights up.

I had replaced all of the interior lights in my Pat with LEDs. Never had a problem like this. I would guess that it's simply just low-quality LEDs. If you really want the crazy-bright lights in there, go with a quality brand like Auxito.

In the summer I bought led lights for the headlights and fog lights. They caused me issues just like you describe. The interior lights stayed on even when off… as soon as I removed the led headlights, everything worked fine.

I ended up going Hid for headlights and led for fog lights. Still though, I see a power draw at times. I do believe when using led lights, you need an adapter of some sort which makes it so your lights don’t flicker or turn off at random. I think the adapter is specific to each brand.

Your situation could be similar. I read that led lights have a high power drain, this is why an adaptor is needed with vehicles that never came stock with led.

Have a Good Day.
