I was looking at a post where someone put stu hd coils on the rear of the jeep and regular stu coils on the front (thats what I read at least). The Stu HD coils look about 3/4" longer. Are they higher than his regular ones. Whats the difference between the coils he makes and how many types are there. Also, it looked like in the post I read, the jeep that had the HD coils was slightly higher in the back. Can someone help me out on this. I need to know what to get because I am about to buy some coils in October when I get some extra money. Thanks guys.

I dont want to talk for Stu, but I purchased mine about a week ago so I know a little. Basically what he has for the Patriot is the regular lift coils which will lift your Patriot the normal two inches. Several people have mentioned that when they load the cargo area with a lot of stuff or have passengers in the back these coils give to much. So now Stu also has available a set of HD Coils, which will give you the same height in the front as the regular lift coils, but in the rear they have a slight reset which makes them taller by a little. Also they are considered "constant load" coils which will not give as much when you load the rear, they are also more expensive by $40AUD.

ok great. thanks for the info.. so im assuming the hd coils are probably a little stiffer. I am wondering if the ride is the same. I would be interested in adding the hd coils to rear since i may tow things in the future. Do you plan on installing the coils yourself?

btw i love the your license plate.. it makes it hard for cops to check the plates at first.

I would like to but I dont have a spring compressor. I read somewhere on someone's post that the HD coils are a bitch to compress with a regular spring compressor. Also I dont have a torque wrench to tighten everything back up when doing the re-install. If I had the tools perhaps I would do it myself but looks like I will have to pay up!! Oh and yeah i guess the constant load springs will be stiffer, but most people that have installed stus coils say that the ride improves. The ride is taller and stiffer so it feels and handles more like an suv rather than big car. Oh and as far as I know the my license plate works great on red light cameras.

i got flashed by the red light camera about a month ago but they didnt get me a ticket yet so I think I am good. I bet if you put on one of the tinted covers with the plate, you are guaranteed not to get a ticket. Did you get a quote on getting the springs installed? Also, what needs to be done once the springs are put on? I heard something about camber bolts. I dont even know what they are.

After the install of the springs you will need an alignment asap. To help you get the correct camber in the alignment process some members have mentioned that they used camber bolts. Camber bolt kits are about $12 at the auto parts store, so they are worth putting in while the alignment is being done. Check out this link they explain a little about camber. http://www.familycar.com/Alignment.htm#Cam I have not gotten a quote yet on the install of the springs but as soon as I know i'll post and let you know, but it might be a while, apparently shipping from Australia takes forever!!!!

On the HD rear springs, Stu said that was only if you constantly have the back loaded up, like the vehicle is used for commercial work, or hauling, etc. Not for a sometimes load. But always better to go straight to the source.

OK thanks guy. I guess ill just get the regular springs. I will also get the camber bolts too. I was wondering when you lift your jeep and get bigger tires, do you need to have it tuned so your speedometer shows the correct speed you are going?

FWIW, I got a quote from a local dealer that supposedly does Jeep mods like putting Hemi's in Wranglers. IIRC, it was around $750 to install the springs w/ camber bolts and do the alignment. Basically an all day job.

There are some posts around here that have links to tire size calculators, or you can probably do a search and find some. The calculators will give you an idea of how far off the speedo will be depending on tire size. Then you can decide on having the computer flashed or not
