I can now finally fix my back bumper, which got tagged in a light snowfall back in February. So here are the current before pictures:

And here is the new one that just got delivered:

Yep! It's a Tactical Armor Group rear bumper. Took a little longer then anticipated, but Kyle down at TAG kept me in the loop on the progress, answered tons of questions and not to mention has as wry of a sense of humor as I do.

I have a little cleanup work and body fill work to do to it, since I'm more a street Jeep. If I was going off-road all the time though, I'd bolt it in as-is. I'll take some shots over the next few days as I progress with the install. Can't wait to GIT'R'DONE! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Sorry that happened to ya bud! But don't you just love a need/want for an upgrade :)

Well, I'm sure I'll use the tow points and I certainly won't be afraid to bang it up if need be. But the OE rear bumper cover, impact foam pad and metal bash bar came in at about $500, plus I wanted a receiver hitch anyway, so this worked out better, plus it's all metal! I just want to clean it up some (some drips in the paint), paint most of it PS2 Silver and make it look a little more factory then all black.

Almost got a front bumper today as a matter of fact. After I loaded the bumper at work, I ran out to get some lunch. Long story short, some guy almost backed right into my front bumper. At first I was going to blow the horn at him...but then I thought, nah, come on buddy, hit it hard too! He realized right at the last inch. LOL

WOW!! That's a sweet upgrade!! Maybe one day I'll get those, I would love some tough bumpers on my Jeep.

It's installed, but I don't have a final installed picture yet. I got a late start putting this on and by the time I was finally done, it was too dark for a good photo. Also, every auto parts store around here does not carry the spray can match paint in PS2 silver. So I'll have to order that. Needless to say it's still just all black. I also have to cut off the plastic inner fender liners still and mount them to the bumper. I'll get a picture of it installed tomorrow.

Here's all the old parts off.

I had to cut off the original inner bumper mount flanges (highlighted) in order to mount the TAG bumper.

As promised, here are the almost finished pictures. I still want to adjust it a little better and you can still see the inner fender liners need to be cut as well. Eventually I'll also get it painted PS2 Silver.

Now remember,... just because you have a big steel bumper doesn't mean you should go around slamming on the breaks in front of everybody :)

It looks good :smiley_thumbs_up::smiley_thumbs_up:

Bet you next time you get rear-ended, you'll smile before getting out of the Pat.

A-Hole rear-ender:
... "What's so funny ???" ...

Todde702:
"Oh, I don't know...
Oh no! you have two big holes in your front bumper!"

I actually laughed out loud at that! Mainly because I thought the same thing. :D

When you say your painting it PS2 Silver, is that a paint name or is it like the Google search result "Play Station 2 Silver"?

Just curious. I was looking in a hardware store at the touch up paints, the smaller aerosol cans, and they were listing 1 Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep silver and wondered if Chrysler uses the same silver paint color on all their vehicles.

It wasn't too expensive and it made me wonder what my bar would look like painted silver like the rest of the body.

PS2 is the Jeep paint code for the Bright Silver Metallic on 2008 Patriots (and other models and years I'm sure). Duplicolor has a catalog that let's you look up the OEM paint code, then see their part numbers for small touch-up bottles and spray cans of that same color, which I think is BCC0410 for the 8 oz spray can.

i wouldn't recommend spraying it with a paint spray.
get it done professionally (heated oven, etc)
lasts way better in time,as well as looks.

I love the photos!! Great work on the install, only one day to get it mostly done? I'm very impressed with your results!

For the rear, you just need to cut off the inner OEM bumper flanges, then massage the area to be flat. There will be some left over strengthening ridges (from the flange, not the frame) that need to be cut or flattened about an inch or less down the rail. Cut them as flush to the frame rail as possible.

My work has a loading dock, so I just had it shipped to my work address.

Oh yeah, two could easily fit with a little creative stacking. I'd make sure to bring some old blankets (which I didn't do) to wrap them with. I gave my interior plastics some new scratches and gouges with it. Even with it bungied in the back, and rope tied the front down to the passenger seat slide rails, it's heavy and still moved around a little on the drive home.

Got any finished color pics yet? Also what happens to the fender liners(pics if you can)? They need trimming? My front right fender well is toast, went down a slushy, muddy road this last weekend and the liner ended up hitting the wheel and there's a good size hole now...lol It was hanging by a thread anyways after my ice bank incident so I'm hoping the front will need trimming when i put on my front bumper.

BTW how long did it take for you to get yours? It's been over a month since I ordered mine and I'm getting ansy...:hammertime:ish

No, shorty after priming it, hitting some body filler, sanding and priming again the weather turned real cold. I'll be finishing it this spring though (very soon!) soon as the weather warms.

Yes, I trimmed the back wheel liners flush to the bottom of the new bumper, which chopped about 5 inches off them.

When I put my order in they had just gotten busy, so it took about 8 weeks in total i think from the initial order until it arrived at my door.
