Famous vibration after RRO lift kit installation

Hi all,

I installed the lift kit over the weekend myself and it went well. Longer than expected, but well. As I took her for the around-the-block spin, I noticed right away that she'd vibrate/wobble in the right front wheel area whenever I would accelerate hard at lower speeds or from a stop. And then it stops vibrating. The guys at the shop that did my alignment could not figure out what it was without dropping the vehicle off for a day. Then I got home and did a search and it appears to be a known issue. Did anyone come up with a definite resolution? I have 1 1/4 wheel spacers and 15" Gambler wheels from JK or JT. Tire size 235-75r15.

Thank you so much

alignment. I ended up taking mine to a dealer that was familiar with lifted jeeps told them and reiterated with them and talked with the actual tech doing the work that it was lifted and how it was lifted and he did the alignment manually and did not rely on a machine or go off of factory specs since they obviously are not going to be correct. so if the guy you took it to does not work with lifted vehicles often, take it somewhere else.

Thank you so much for you response. Were you or the tech able to figure out what makes the noise? I noticed today while druving the car (or at least I think so) that the vibrations come when the front of the Jeep lifts up from a brisk acceleration. Darn it. I would hate to spend another 100 bucks on this mod

Fitting the strut spacers is not sufficient. You must also replace the rear upper control arms, necessary for proper alignment and position of wheels. And set en new pair of adapted camber bolts. This custom offset bolts are necessary to achieve proper alignment.

So I went to my trusty mechanic a couple of hours ago. He drove the Jeep, looked underneath and told me his findings. Apparently the whole vibe/rattle comes from the CV joint at the top of the axle. You can even see grease shoot outta there. The rubber boot (dust cover) is tightly squeezed on one side. He said that this cannot be fixed, unless I get an aftermarket axle that might or might not jet exist for this truck. He offered to search for a solution of that sort for me, but I am done. This was mainly a cosmetic thing for me and I have already spent a ton of money on the initial alignment. Too bad. I just through away 300 bucks (excluding the kit itself)

Thank you. I just spoke with the RRO guys again. Actually talked to Chuck (I think) and he seemed to be very knowledgeable and he admitted that he gets calls with the same problem every couple of months. He said that in most cases the solution is simple. The axle pops out of the transition just a tiny bit during the kit install, maybe a 1/4 inch and if you just pop it back in it would resolve the problem. I can't wait to get home and try. All you need is a rubber mallet. Unscrew the nut on the spindle and whack the axle good :) I really hope that will solve my issue.

So I took my car to a mechanic and after pounding the axle in it did not help much. I also took everything a part myself too in the front passenger side and pounced on the axel again to make sure it is fully seated in the tranny. It is and it wss not the problem. So I took my custom wheel setup off and put back the stock wheels on. The vibration almost went away. It's still there if I really floor it, but much, much less noticable. I wonder if the inner CV went bad. I took the pat to the dealer hoping for a warranty covered repair, but they basically blew me off. Intalling the kit voided the warranty.
So after spending over $300 on post installation game-play (240 - alignment plus 60 vibration troubleshooting) I will be removing the kit and most likely will be selling it. I guess I could have ordered a whole new axel assembly and install it myself to see if that fixes the issue, but I think I am done with this, mostly cosmetic, waist of money and time. I wish I did more research on this kit before investing.

Again, sorry to hear that.

I hate to ask, could you do me a huge favor?

I you haven't taken the lift off, could you raise the front passenger wheel off the ground and measure the distance from the bottom of the axle to the top of where the control arm connects to the sub-frame?

It would be a big help, Thanks!

So the lift is off and the vibration is gone. With the OEM wheels on right now, but I will put my custom setup back and I do not expect that the problem will return. I am actually hoping in a day or two to take the axel assembly out and inspect the inner CV joint, which was the source of the vibriation. The lift kit is going back on Ebay. This was a very costly and upsetting exersise.

I installed the RRO lift on my Jeep when it had no miles, i had the same problem as OP, when going into any right turn that required the wheel cut all the way, I'd have to accelerate slowly so it wouldn't wobble.
I removed the kit 8 years later, i could care less the added height from a 2" lift
