Dealer won't look at my transmission

I recently took my 2009 Jeep Patriot in to the local dealership. Been having transmission issues, won't get out of 2nd gear. I told the service people that a local mechanic had run the codes on the local TCM, but perhaps they better run them. They refused to even take a look at it. Said that since the Patriot had ceased using the CVT around 2014, they didn't keep parts for that anymore. Is this true, or are these guys trying to run a number on me? By the way, they were happy to quote me a price of $7500 for a new transmission. Also, the transmission was replaced in 2013 but at least it was still under warranty then.

If I remember right, the original deal that Chrysler had with Jatco on the CVT's was that if the CVT failed under warranty they weren't repaired at the dealer, they were just replaced with a new one and sent back to Jatco.

That being the case, I'm sure they'd rather sell you a new / reman'd transmission with a warranty rather than try to repair it and be on the hook if it comes back again, but I'd think they could at least offer to do a diagnostic to verify what the other shop found as a second opinion.

Yes, the CVT is not serviced by CDJR dealers, only replaced. You might find a Nissan dealer who will look at it because Nissan used the same transmission -- I'm not sure what their agreement with Jatco was. If Nissan won't touch it, maybe an independent shop might, or at least might replace it for less than the dealer would charge.

I strongly advise you not risk a junkyard transmission. The transmission may be why the vehicle was junked. Get a factory rebuilt. That will come with a warranty. The 5-spd on my Patriot was replaced last year (200,000 miles) and it began giving me trouble again this spring. The work had done at a CDJR dealer and they honored their warranty, even though it was 6 months since the replacement. Dealers charge more, but in my case it was worth it.

Actually, the CVT with autostick was continued on the 2.0L models(FWD only) until 2017, and the FD2 low range CVT was also continued until 2017. Dealers never really did know what they were talking about these things.
