Found this at the bottom of my car the other day after I noticed the car started to sound really loud. Not sure how this might have happened, but how would I go about fixing this?

Yup. Used to be that people broke into cars to steal what's inside, or opened the hood and stole batteries. Manufactureres started installing inside hood latches to protect the batteries. Now thieves steal catalytic converters. It's getting to be a big thing around here. Nobody's immune if your vehicle is parked outside.

Yeah, what they ^^^^^^ said. Damn shame. Patriots, and SUV's in general are pretty easy targets since they are high enough off the ground for a low-life dirtbag to crawl under.

What all of the above said regarding some low-life scumbag with a portable saw trying to steal the convertor. Going for BIG $$$ in scrap yards (they are a part of the problem as well for receiving stolen merchandise no questions asked). Either an exhaust shop (or a buddy with a welder) can weld, or try some JB Weld 37901 high temp, let it cure for 24 hours after applying, and for good measure a wrap or 2 of high temp exhaust tape if you're on a budget. Be thankful it appears someone/something interrupted them, otherwise you're looking at a $1,200+ price tag.

The items inside of the catalytic converter is what they are after. It’s just a spec of precious metals, but can be worth hundreds to thousands each vehicle.

There's also a part auto stores sell that might cover that saw-cut. Not that this is funny but a dealership out here by me in Oakland County came in one morning to find someone cut off all the cats from the cars in the lot, (Used Vehicles so they didn't look like new ones.) This issue isn't over yet. The scrapyards aren't supposed to accept cats without the proper ID & a 1-3 day waiting period. I guess that might still be the problem....

Donut Media published a video about catalytic converter thefts, telling how it's done and a few different ways to potentially defend against it. You may find a look rather useful. Don't wanna lose something from your prize Jeep.
