Brake light

Coming home from work today, sitting at a red light, I heard a single ding. Looked at my dash and saw that the brake light was on. Not the parking brake light, but I pulled on the parking brake lever and released it anyway. Light still on. I started driving and it went off. As I pulled into my driveway it came on again. While it was on I ran JSCAN and there are no codes. I checked the master cylinder and it is full. Anyone got any idea?

Thanks Sandstone. I did. Guess I'll be checking them again. I got called into work at 3am this morning. On my way home I hit a little pothole and got the ding/light again... so it does seem to be a wiring issue.

Haven't had time yet to look into the wiring, but got some new lights and codes today. The brake light didn't come on, but the ABS, ESC, and 4WD! lights did come on. When I checked for codes in JSCAN, B1638, B1669, B2204, C1008, B1634, B2305, B162F, U0415, C1044. That's quite the list!

Hopefully I can squeeze out of work a little early tomorrow and try to fix these.

B1638 JEEP Code - Right High Beam Control Circuit High
B1669 JEEP Code - Reverse Lamp Control Circuit Open
B2204 JEEP Code - ECU Configuration Mismatch
C1008 JEEP Code - Brake Fluid Level Circuit High
B1634 JEEP Code - Left High Beam Control Circuit High
B2305 JEEP Code - Wiper Park Switch Input Circuit High
B162F JEEP Code - Right Low Beam Control Circuit Low
U0415 JEEP Code - Invalid Data Received From Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module
C1044 JEEP Code - Right Rear Tone Wheel Performance

Pretty sure there's a ground issue, but looks like I need a right rear wheel bearing too. It's been getting a bit noisy lately, and it's the only one that I haven't replaced yet.

mine went on a few months ago, and the light coded for a brake sensor and so i got that changed and it ended up being my ground wire. they didn’t make me pay for the sensor since it wasn’t that and still haven’t gotten the wire fixed yet because i have to take it somewhere else since the place i go doesn’t do electrical

Tried replacing my right rear hub yesterday. Couldn't get the axle bolt off. Tried with an air powered and an electric impact wrench and a breaker bar with a 4 foot cheater. Ended up snapping off a wheel stud in the process. Said f it and made an appointment to get it done. Realized I'm getting too old to beat on cars.

Unfortunately, having to admit to that reality more each year.:( Things that used to be relatively easy, or even many tough jobs I used to tackle with ease, get further out of my reach each year. When I was young, I had relatively few good tools, but man did I manage to get a lot of tough stuff done. Now I'm older, have like a zillion tools, including air tools, but finding myself too pooped to use them 1/2 the time.

The red light on the dash that just says "brake" is an indicator of the parking brake I think. Comes on when I pull the handle for mine. Probably an electrical issue like you're thinking.

So, I got my Pat back from the shop today. Got there just as they were closing. They got the hub replaced and said that they couldn't find anything else wrong. On the drive home it was very obvious how quiet it was. The only "complaint" I ever had about my AT tires is how loud they were getting... turns out that wheel bearing must have been going bad for almost 2 years! I owe my tires an apology, lol.
Also, about half way home I noticed something else. Every time I hit the brakes they were getting louder and louder. First like there was dirt between the pads and rotor, then a metal on metal grinding sound, then a horrendous screech by the time I got home. I figured that maybe it was something simple so I pulled the wheel off to check. Turns out that the mechanic FORGOT A BRAKE PAD! There is no inboard bad, the piston is pressing right into the rotor.
Judging by the sounds it was making, I'd say that the rotor is probably trash now. Maybe the caliper too since it's not good to have the piston extend that far. I drove it straight back to the shop and will be calling them as soon as they open.

Got her back from the shop again. The shop lied about what the problem was, telling me that the backing plate was bent. I didn't call them out or argue about it... maybe I should have? It stops fine and doesn't make any noises. And all the dash lights are out.

Unfortunate situation for you. If something should happen in the future, they probably have written records to cover their arse. I "might" have made them replace the entire caliper and new pads.

Pictures would have helped you, but probably the best scenario would have been to put the wheel back on, have it towed to an independent shop, and get an independent written record of the situation.

Having said that, it's very easy to armchair quarterback when not in the heat of the situation and don't know all of the details. Hopefully they had an experienced person that evaluated the caliper to be o.k.. Maybe the piston was not damaged in the trip home.

Glad that everything is running well now. Keep an eye on that wheel and brake caliper. Getting good vehicle service is even more difficult now a days due to the employee shortages.

Take care.

My brake warning light is finally out! I checked continuity on the black/yellow wire going to the level sensor on the side of the master cylinder and there wasn't any. So, instead of re-doing G110 (I'll do that another day) I ran a new ground wire up to the plug. Tidied it up a bit and it's all done. Just wish I had had some black cable ties.
