I think it's a motor mount. Is this common in the patriots? It only shakes in drive. Neutral, reverse and park do not shake. When in at a stop light on my way to work it shakes the worst. Doesn't seem as bad on my way home from work. The a/c definitely makes the shake worse. Nothing else seems to effect it

A slight vibration in gear when stopped at a light is normal. Especially with ancillary draw on the engine, like the A/C running. If the hood is vibrating a lot, you may need to adjust the bumpers underneath it. There are a few along the front of the engine bay, along the radiator support, and a few on the sides near the back of the engine bay. They have a rubber top on them and you can screw them down to lower or up to raise. They should touch the underside of the hood when it's closed, but not prevent it from closing fully. There were a lot of threads on this some time back.
I notice on my 2014 that when the engine is cold, I get more vibration in gear stopped at lights. Once warmed up it lessens. I've always considered it to be a function of the PCM "choke" setting that slightly elevates idle RPM until the engine reaches operating temp. Once warmed up my Patriot idles around 100 RPM or so less than when it's "cold".

We recently bought a used 2014 Patriot Sport and it seems a lot of Jeeps have this same issue, and numerous posts and comments on line. Personal opinion is that since I can put it in neutral and its ok it's possibly an idle setting. Idle is set too low on these vehicles. I've seen posts from others who had torque converters worked on, motor mounts replaced and still the same issue. No way to adjust the idle so we just have to live with it I guess. Also doesn't matter on our Jeep what the air temp is outside or whether the engine is warm or cold. Always the same vibration unless I put it in neutral at a red light.

I'm with DangerAaron. Patriots do seem to have a problem with flapping hoods. Mind did it for 10 years. I just ignored it. Never had an engine problem. If it idles nicely in neutral, don't worry about it. I wouldn't go looking for trouble.

It only does it in drive. The rpms will sometimes be at 900 and sometimes 600. It only starts shaking at 600. I guess it just depends on the mood of my jeep. I'm not worried about it till something happens lol. To those who live in az. I drove up to Payson today from tempe and the gas guage didn't move till about 70 miles after filling up. Not bad!

My hood has done this since day one. The hood hinge is a weird design setup and only weight and gravity holds it down. Take your hand and grab either back corner of the hood by the windshield and lift. You can move it up without much effort. It's a feature really, if you notice it stopped moving, you probably stalled. ;)
