Patriot wins 4x4 award

The Jeep® Patriot 2.0 CRD Sport has been named "4x4 of the Year" by United Kingdom specialist magazine 4x4 and MPV Driver. The Patriot has been attracting customers from competitor brands such as Land Rover, Nissan and Honda since its launch in the UK in June this year. With nearly 800 sales to date, the Patriot appeals to customers that want a vehicle that is capable on- and off-road, but who also want the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a family hatchback. Commenting on the award which was announced in the December edition of the magazine, Bob Murray, editor of 4x4 and MPV Driver, said, “The Jeep Patriot is quicker than the Land Rover Freelander 2, more able off-road than the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV 4, pumps out less CO2 than the Nissan X-Trail and has a boot around the size of the VW Tiguan’s. The Patriot is a cracking car to drive and promises to be a decent ownership proposition. It adds a welcome dash of adventure and U.S. style to a sometimes bland SUV market. At last you can have your American pie ... and eat it, too!” The publication recently awarded the Jeep brand the Gold Award in its Green 4x4 awards ahead of all other manufacturers of 4x4s and SUVs. They praised the Patriot as being the most economical 4x4 ever to wear the Jeep badge and the least polluting with their low CO2 emissions compared to manufacturers with smaller vehicles. Simon Elliott, Managing Director of Chrysler UK, said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive this top award for our latest model in the Jeep range."

I KNEW it! As far as I'm concerned, the Patriot is a future collectible. Believe me, this lil gem is a very well designed package and if given the support of Jeep, it can become a feather in their cap. By the way, we had our first touch of winter today with sleet, icing and tomorrow we expect winds over 50 MPH. We had a chance to try out the heated seats today and the Jeep was a cozy ride out to the tip of this island in addition to being as sure footed as a mountain goat.

I think that what RAMBOY is trying to point out is that there are A LOT OF OTHER POLLUTANTS that are emitted as part of Diesel combustion. For example the need for low sulfur diesel (anybody remember acid rain). Anybody thought about what that cool Blue-Tec diesel is all about? It is like a catalytic converter for diesel to try and remove some of the really bad things in diesel exhaust. Diesel, while more energy laden than gasoline, has some much nastier than CO2 chemicals associated with its combustion. While the benefit in MPG is good, if everyone was driving diesel powered vehicles right now instead of gasoline we would actually be in worse shape.

Although I don't think that's what he was getting at, I agree with your diesel point. The far better alternative is to continue to slowly implement already existing technology to increase fuel efficiency [so as to not screw up the whole economy] while searching for a lesser evil. :) Kudos to jeep for introducing the FIRST inexpensive, fuel-efficient suv that has the smallest carbon footprint available [in it's price range]! And congratulations to all of us owners for doing our part whether we intended to or not :)

I still want proof--not alledged scientific concensus--that we are catastrophically destroying our planet by the vehicles we drive. Anyone of us, who is driving a Jeep product, is driving one--if not--the "greenest" vehicle produced from its womb to tomb production cycle. Some of the best known hybrids are way down the list of evironmently friendly cars and trucks.

When anyone talks about pollution, they need to look at the WHOLE picture--not just fuel economy.
