another day, another leak (to all new and potential patriot owners)

covered all the bases by now, hit a grand slam. front, mid, rear dome lights, and now a-pillar also. i'm going to go for the door, the floor, and maybe b-pillar also soon enough. and soon enough, your patriot will be like this too, and then you will understand.

this is what you should expect if you are a new patriot owner:

you'll wake up to this one day, and finally know how it feels. and it is by far not a pleasant feeling.

this is only the beginning:

i do not think the cd player reads aqua cds.

Image

the MUST own accessory for the patriot, a beach towel to dry off yourself and the cabin of your flawed car.

(you should expect this eventually, these aren't even horrible pictures, i have seen worse, but just didn't bother to take pictures of it when my cabin was being flooded)

when you take out the cd, it is wet on both sides, i don't think this is a good thing...

this was after the fact, when most of it had already drained out onto the dash, but its still evidence indeed.

NOTHING random about this, if it hasn't happened to you, it will, and when it does, you will understand how and what everyone else feels. this is a flawed car. and you are screwed.

I understand your pain, but it is the exception not the rule.
I just want to point that out to anyone who reads this.
I and many other owners have had no leaks whatsoever (thankfully).

Water Leak Poll:
275 65% no leaks whatsoever
The rest had leaks of some kind.

This was a multiple choice poll so there will be some doubling up of the number of vehicles with leaks. This is a small sampling, but it most likely is more heavily weighted to those that have problems because those are more likely to participate.

There is something definitely wrong with the seal on the sunroof.
I would also think that there might be a bad seal along the roof (where the side panels mate with the roof).

I know I'm going to regret this posting, but I've never experienced anything remotely like this. We've had horrendous thunderstorms and I regularly drive through a one foot to one foot six river ford. I really reckon that that situation, Whitgt, is outrageous. Totally unacceptable. The next time it happens I suggest you go first of all with the car to your family lawyer to show him what your claim will hinge upon, and then to the dealership to tell them what your lawyer said.
I really can't see that they'd have a defence worth pursuing.

Mine leaked in the first 24 hours so today we'll see what the dealer response is. Pretty disappointing. This is really a non-issue unless it happens to you and then suddenly you're interested in everyone's story.

I should have been smarter when i picked it up and had them test it while I was there. Problem for this vehicle is, it was on the showroom floor when we bought it so there was no way to see if there were any issues when we looked at it before purchase.

i brought mine in nov 2008, first leak, feb 2009, dealer "fixed." and as you can imagine..."fixed" and "fixed...." and it comes back, and it will come back even worse than it begun. once you're hit once with the leak, it stays with you regardless of if the dealership "fixes" it.

be smart, do not own this car over the 36k/3yr warranty, when that runs out, you're even more screwed and even more on your own.

there are countless people whose first and only posts are "i googled jeep patriot leak, and found this forum." these people come on here, make their posts about their leak, and never come back to the forum. there are countless who don't bother to search the internet for others with the same problem. with the number of posts and complaints filed, it is not a random problem, it is something that is going to happen eventually, and i do not wish it on my worst enemy, but when it happens, you'll truly completely "understand" how people with a leak feel.

Wow, that is some serious leaking. It looks like it's spraying out from your dome light in one picture! It's sad to read that it has left such a sour taste in your mouth for this vehicle. I have a 2010 on order, I hope they have fixed this issue now.

But as steve_spiegel stated about the lemon law, would this qualify as reason for it? I know in Canada we don't have that extra consumer protection in the form of a lemon law, so its a larger risk for people to buy here.

Hopefully Chrysler can help you out with this problem. I know I would be pissed if this happened to me.

How many times have you had it in for a leak?
Have you started the Lemon Law process?

There have been over 107,000 Patriot's sold in the US.
We have a very unscientific poll with 421 votes (not necessarily unique vehicles) to date. The total votes on the poll represent 0.3% of the total number of Patriots sold.

Of those votes 275 were for no leaks (that is 275 vehicles).

Our poll results would suggest that about 2 out of 3 have no leaks.

There would be 71,000 with no leaks.
There would be 36,000 with a leak of some kind.

There is no way that this is the actual number of leaky Patriots.
With that many problem vehicles, there would be grounds for class action lawsuits.

Maybe get that started if you truly believe that a leaky Patriot is a foregone conclusion.

It is very unfortunate that anyone have to experience a niagra falls inside their vehicle.

I think you forgot to mention this leak is only found on the models with a sunroof. Right?

I agree that if you haven't persued the lemon law yet then you either need to get on it or get over it. That's why it was put in place. It's kinda like if you don't vote you got no room to whine.

There are still cases of water leaking out of the dome light without a sunroof. If the water gets in via the roof seams (sides or at windshield) it could end up at the dome light.

come to think of it my pat was outside at the dealership for some time and i see no visual damage anywhere from any kind of leak. We have had some rain the summer that I would suspect would have done some damage with it sitting in the packing lot of the dealership so i am not to worried about mine in particular. But to the O.P. you need to seek a lawer as stated above and get this problem resolved becuase there is no way you should be going thru what you have been period.

I'm glad there is a pic of the front dome light leak! I had that very same leak back in December during a 24 down pour in Indiana. I had the Patriot in finally in Vegas last month for a fix (live on the road and can never go without the thing for over a day). The leak only happened once in a particular circumstance. The dealer in Vegas said that they did find that my Sunroof was out of alignment and wasn't allowing the glass to seal properly which could allow water to find its way into the Jeep, especially via the dome light. I've had it washed a few times since and no leak (crossing fingers).

Dude, I'd be screaming bloody murder over all that leakage! If they refused to fix it, I'd be getting a lawyer and calling the local news (what else do they have to cover?). Think about it, if you wanted that much water on the inside, you should have just bought a Wrangler and taken the top off! :-(

I haven't ever had a leak... knock on wood.

Oh wait. It's only rained 3 times here in the last year. nm.

Kidding aside, whitegt01, and everyone else with a leak that serious. If they can't get it fixed in 3 tries, that's a new vehicle for you. It sucks, and it will be a fight, but you will win the fight in the end. And if you're right, that all Pats will eventually leak, then a class action lawsuit is in order.

:smiley_thumbs_up: No leaks here and we've had it a year in Northern NY, AND IT'S BEEN RAINING ALL SUMMER LONG  Oh and we have a sunroof! I feel bad for you, that is not acceptable !

Had mine in 4 times started lemon law process. Today I noticed it leaking again. We had a bad downpour on my way home from work so I decided to keep an eye on the sunroof. Sure enough about an inch away from both corners of the sunroof on the passenger side I could see large drips of water coming in. On the drivers side the rear corner was also driping and along the front edge was small drips. It maybe a little hard to see in the picture. So I guess its trip number 5 to the dealer.

yes a friend has an 08 up here in northern VT no leaks from him..
talk about rain....everyday. What about condensation? could it be possible that condensation is building between the roof layers Is the roof 1 layer sheet metal or 2 with a space in between?
I have seen conditions where condensation can make a lot of water before.

On the other forums I frequent (Saturn Aura and Ford Freestyle), sunroof leaks are among the top complaints. One of the reasons I will never purchase a vehicle with a sunroof, but that is my choice. The main reason is that I am too cheap to spend over $1000 on the option. I also find that sunroofs tend to add to the interior noise level. If I want air, I can open a window...

Seems like 5 minutes and a tube of silicone caulk, to caulk around the perimeter of the sunroof opening and then leave it permanently closed, would solve the problem. Actually, I agree with the other comments regarding a lemon law claim if you live in a lemon law state.

You deserve to be compensated for such poor workmanship - what a disaster! Don't let JEEP off the hook on this. Document EVERYTHING! This would definitely seem to qualify for "Lemon Law" protection.
Good luck!
