Amp location

Finally my box and subwoofer are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow :pepper: I figured I would consult in my jeeper friends and see if it would be ok for the amp to just be fastened to the back of the box or could heating or something else be a problem? I have no background in electrical whatsoever.

Mounted to back of box is perfectly safe. Flat and level will make the most use of the amp's heat sink, but it's not the most critical thing. If you find that the amp goes into protection mode frequently, you may have to find a different home for it. Thermal protection is usually triggered by a faulty ground more than an actual heat buildup issue. An insufficient ground connection will make an amp run really hot.

I've heard people warn about back of box mounting causing heat problems, but I've not met anyone that actually had it happen, short of really really high output installs.

If not mounted to the back of the box, what other locations can you think of? Under the seat seems legit, but I would be a bit nervous of a friend stepping on it.

Maybe I don't wanna be like you The4wdPatriot :) j/k I am having it installed now. We will see what they come up with!

I bought a piece of wood the size spare tire well and mounted my amps on it. All depends on the height of the amps. I even put automotive carpet on it. I'm going to go back and clean up the wiring at some point, but for now it gets the job done...

What all you got running power wise?:p

This is exactly how I had mine in my 2012. Just bought a 2014 over the weekend and took my amp and sub out. Not sure if I want it in there anymore. The sub was just a little larger than yours but I thought it took too much room. I want the sub sound but without taking my cargo space. Hopefully I will find a good alternative here.

I had my amp mounted to my sub box originally but opted to move it to utilize cargo space when needed. I moved the amp under the false floor right above the spare tire. I secured it using hook and loop tape to prevent having to drill. The amp doesn't run hot and when I need the space I can pull out my box.

well even tho i just finished mine above like a few weeks ago... im at it again and am going to basically change my whole set up.. but i want to put my amps and capacitor in the spare tire area like rich did. i have a full size spare on my roof so im going to take out that tire. but i cant figure out how to get rid of the pole/long stud the tire is secured with. has anyone removed this?
