I am on my 3rd Jeep Patriot. My 1st was a 2008, the 2nd was a 2012 and my current is a 2017. I didn't have any issues with either of my first two vehicles. My current one, however, is having idling issues... When I have sat at a red light for a while, and the AC is NOT on, the idle drop below .5 RPM (I drive an automatic) and the engine will rev just enough to keep from stalling. The longer I sit, the more it happens. I am close to 60K miles so I decided to take it in for a tune up. It didn't make any difference. The dealership suggested I might need to have the throttle body replaced, but from what I have read, I am not having the same issues that would warrant a replacement. If I turn the AC on, the idle still fluctuates, but not enough to cause the engine to surge. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure if this is the same thing?, but this is the second time this light came on, driving from Phoenix to Tucson, and my acceleration is slowing down, this Jeep 2016 nothing but same issues, always when I use the A/C. Maybe I need to stick with a minivan.
That's the transmission over-temperature indicator. The system thinks the transmission is getting too hot so it makes the vehicle slow down (called "limp mode") to try to let it cool off

Sometimes dirt and debris can clog the A/C condenser and transmission cooler (sits in front of the radiator), you can try taking a garden hose and spraying water through the grill to wash them out a little and see if that helps.

If you've overheated the tranny it would be a good idea to change the fluid, too.

PS, I see you are new here. Welcome to the site!

I had a similar issue with the RPM before I replaced my throttle body at around the same mileage (maybe 10k more). Its a super easy fix if you want to do it yourself and there are lots of videos on how to do it. Are there any codes being thrown out? Is it only occurring at idle or other times too? Are there any noises? Are there any electrical oddities?
