This morning on the drive to work my Jeep flashed the check engine light, the red lightning bolt, and the tcs light before the engine stalled out and shut off. All the electronics stayed on and I was able to pull off to the side of the road and after sitting for a minute and restarting my car only the check engine light came on. It did it once more on the drive to work as well but drove and sounded great on my way back home.

I did check the alternator and everything looks good there, the oil was VERY dark though, like black, I bought the car used from CarMax and the paperwork indicated that the last oil change was done right before I bought it and I’ve had it about 8 months and haven’t even driven it 3000 miles yet and the oil looked fine last month when I checked. I have an appointment at a mechanic tomorrow to go ahead and change the oil and run diagnostics but does anyone have any idea why this would’ve happened?

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Without knowing what error codes are present it's harder to say, but since the throttle body light came on it's possible that it's going bad and needs replaced; they have plastic gears inside them that wear out and can start to slip and cause problems. Sometimes when they fail they don't even set error codes.

I have a 2016 2.4L, I had purchased mine through Carvana, only 26k miles on it! About a month after purchase the exact same thing happen to me. I managed to pull over and after a couple of tries the car restarted and seemed to be perfectly fine. The next day it happened again. Once again I got it started and this time I drove str8 to the dealer and left it there. It turned out to be a bad Crankshaft timing Sensor. MIne was covered under warrentee but on the bright side, it was a very inexpensive repair even though I didn't have to pay the bill was $112.00 for the part and labor even at the jeep dealer. its been 7 months and no problems. I hope you fair as well.
