Starting at $21,995 you can buy what is basically a lifted Impreza. Lifted to 8.7 inches of ground clearance (2012 Patriot is 9.1 I believe, but Subaru says it's more than a non quardra-lift Grand Cherokee which I think is 8.1 inches). 2.0L boxer 148 hp 145 lb-ft (Europe has the diesel with 258 lb-ft) it's hooked to a CVT or a 5 speed. the CVT gets 25 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway, the manual is 23/30.

Will this new Subaru tempt you?

To me it sorta looks like a Pontiac Vibe, and that's not bad, but not great either. If there was a turbo under the hood, or maybe the diesel, it would at least be interesting. Overall the look is OK, but with the price tag and the low hp numbers I don't think it will be on my radar for much more than a joy ride. Just put in a decent motor (minimum 200 hp 200 lb-ft) and I think the XV would be able to dominate the small crossover market.

With the looks of a Ford Focus wagon and the HP of a Ford Temp"slow" I say no thank you I'll stick to Mopar!

My dreams of reenacting Fast and Furious would finally become possible!#@$E!%@ I could shift every 3 seconds for dramatic action! Oh the excitement I would gain for the first 24 seconds of owning it.:Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::Racing::eek:

For that kinda money you could probably have your Patriot upgraded with a Pentastar and a 9 speed.

I love the Patriot in so many ways, but re-considering buying another, after replacing more front end parts, and bushings front and rear, recently (seems like every year there's another part or more) and looking at all the rust underneath, even though the body and inside are close to perfect, I worry about keeping one long term, as it's only been 4 years and almost 100K miles for my 08.

I still need to mileage, the cargo space, clearance, and capability of the Patriot though. I would just like something that will outlast the payments.

Or someone to tell me how to make one of these last. I thought with a new one I'd get all the front end parts aftermarket, and replace all when the first component goes bad, but the rust everywhere sort of worries me. And sure, they do use road salt here, and I drive all winter, but I also wash it often in winter (at least once a week) and high-pressure hose out underneath, and everywhere I can reach, etc. So I'm sort of at a loss as to what to do now. Take a chance on another one of these, or look for something else.

I looked at the Unlimited, lot's more money, and less mileage, but everything else is good. But my wondering where they get the steel, and if it's like the underneath of the Patriot, I'd be really bummed paying more for the vehicle and more to operate it as well.

You could buy another and rubberize the bottom? I also hear that fluid film stuff is pretty good for protecting against rust....

Looking underneath, and see the amount of rust, and bolts that look like they could become dust, it worries me.

If I could be confident I could prevent that, I would buy another one. Even with the other issues.

As a comparison, my '03 Tracker has over 200K miles on it, and front end parts are original, and less rust than the Patriot under it. Almost 10 years old, and driven more and harder than the Pat.

Was a partnership between GM and Suzuki. Mine says Chevy on it, but parts are interchangeable with the Suzuki.

Transfer case with 4 H and L, locking diffs front and rear, more clearance would be nice, but has skid plates and hooks, and I rarely hit bottom.

My first one was an 98, and I think that may have been the first year they badged them Chevy, and they were more boxy then. That one though had the odd way to unlock the hubs, by reversing for so far. My 01 was shift-on-the-fly, and my 03 is the same.

Looking at a used 01 now, hard to find them in 4cyl, but the one I'm looking at is, and less than 70K on the clock. Looking to have another around, maybe, for parts, or to drive and use my current one for parts. Just wondering how long my 03 will keep going, over 202000 miles on it. When I bought the Pat it went to my wife, so we don't have to drive the Ram as much.

It's just a tall city car. It will probably sell well just because of the awesome gas mileage alone. It's a honda CRV killer, not a patriot killer.

I personaly wouldn't buy it because it has no low gears, roof rack, 2" receiver hitch, cargo room or look rugged enough....which is why I bought the patriot

Be prepared to read!

Hate me all you want but I am gulping the Subaru Kool-Aid! I fell in love with a 2012 Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium at the Subaru Dealership before I went into BMT ... I obviously couldn't afford it at the time and it's out of my range now as well. It was everything I'd want in a wagon and the styling is way better than the last generation's wagons. The interior is incredibly spacious and the dash has everything you'd want but an espresso maker (granted it was the second highest package you could get in the wagon/hatchback model). For me looking at the trunk space was sort of a downer compared to the Forester or Outback but it wasn't that bad ... better than most wagons/hatchbacks (side-note...the Outback is damn hideous these days :( Subaru killed the Legacy). The exterior styling isn't all that bad to me even though it reminds me a lot of the Dodge Caliber but when I saw that thing in person I died. I loved it...it's sticker price was only $20k and some change...I was impressed.

Now comparing that to this XV CrossTek ... its pretty much the same thing just taller in my opinion so I would love to buy one, YES. It is seriously on my list of future vehicles I would like to own (a Pat being the number one for now though). Sure it's not super capable offroad and is very European but it's what the vast majority of the crossover market looks like these days and you have to keep up with the competition...if they're selling and people like them then I say why fix whats not broken? And I'm sure models will come with roof racks...it's a Subaru, it's gotta have at least one version offered :p

PatriotMB; you said: "All Subarus are extremly ugly... I doubt their sales are anywhere close to Jeeps.." Well I am politely disagreeing (don't cut my head off for arguing please lol). While their hideous attempt at an SUV is still failing and they've ruined the Legacy and Outback...for some reason the Impreza's, Forester's, and even still the ugly Outback's sell like hotcakes. Specially in tough wintered states like Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, Colorado, etc. **I only named these states cause they are ones that I know of, I'd guess that Washington, the Great Lakes states, and the Northeast would have high Subaru sales too but I've never been there nor do I pretend like I know anything about those states**

I'm not saying they are the most popular vehicles by any means I'm just saying they sell more than you think. Depends on where you live I guess; kind of like how down in Texas I can't find a new 4x4 FDII, or FDI for that matter, at a dealership. No one really needs a 4x4 Pat so they are rarely brought in...4x4 Wranglers though, well they sell themselves. So I wouldn't doubt that Subaru's don't sell that well down here in the South/Southeast (where we both live). In regards to how well Jeep sales are, well...the Wrangler and GC's hardly need advertising and the Patriot and Liberty have been selling quite well so I could see where your statement could be valid. I am willing to agree with you that Jeep sales are probably better than Subaru's but I wouldn't assume it is by very much.

csowners; You said "And, all of these crossovers these days look alike: Ford Escape, Mazda CX, Subaru Tribecca (and now this one), others, etc. Give me the classic Jeep look any day!!!" The Ford Escape and Mazda CX5 were a collaboration project. That's why they look so alike. And I don't think the Tribecca looks like either of those or this but that's your opinion, we all have them. Just letting you know why those two look so alike. I hate the new Escape but like the CX5. But I agree with the last part of what you said...I love the classic Jeep look don't get me wrong :D

Sorry this got so long and detailed...I had quite a bit of time and I actually investigated somewhat into the Impreza and have been keeping track of this CrossTrek ever since it was leaked a while back :p I hope y'all don't hate me for this novel of a post haha

Relevent stat... july 2012 Jeep sold 41,559 units. Subaru sold 25,183. Jeep had a 16.36% daily sales rate increase compared to July 2011. Subaru had a 25.55% DSR increase. In the past 5 months, only 2 months did jeep have a higher DSR increase than Subaru. So while Jeep moves more units it appears Subaru is catching up. They have a long way to go though.

Thanks for finding these stats. I couldn't find anything that wasn't on a forum so I didn't bother posting bs/worthless information lol basically I was being lazy :D

I like Subaru, but every time I imagine myself driving one, they just look plain and blah. Cool cars, awesome engineering, but too boring for me

If I could find something else, with the mileage, cargo space, and capabilities of the Patriot... I would look at it. Every year I've had the Patriot it's been something else going bad.
:hammertime: DITTO that, Too! :hammertime:

I like having more room than that in the trunk. Thats probably the only reason I wouldn't buy this vehicle. The looks of it are ok, I would prefer better. The price is a little high. I still have my eyes on a future wrangler, one that probably isn't even out yet.
