Hey guys. What could be causing a slightly rough idle on my 2010 Pat, 2.4l? I changed the plugs, and they were all clean. It seems to run fine, but at about 84,000 miles I noticed a vibration when stopped. I've got 90,000 now, and it's a little worse. No lights. Maybe run some injector cleaner through it? EGR? Or the cam positions sensor I've been hearing about?

Does it only vibrate when in gear but stopped? Like at a red light? And is it a CVT or 5 speed?

I've heard that vibrations are fairly common for CVT models when they're in gear but stopped. Mine has been doing that for a few months now, and I just ordered everything needed to change the CVT fluid/filter.

Motor mounts maybe?

Yep, when stopped in gear. In Park it seems to idle okay. Even though Pat has 90K miles, the trans (a CVT) was replaced at 63,000 under goodwill warranty. I was actually thinking about a fluid change, but 30K miles seems low. Then again, you can't check the level.

I was also thinking motor mount. Need to get it on a hoist.

The level can be checked, just not very easily. Do a quick search on here, there's several threads on how to do it. You'll need to either purchase a dipstick or use a long piece of heavy wire, as well as either a thermometer or a decent scan tool, but it's not difficult.

Sandstone, if it was motor mounts, would there be any other symptoms? My Patriot's been idling a little rough when stopped in gear, but that's the only symptom. I don't really notice it much, because I usually shift into neutral when stopped, but I never hear any odd noises (other than squeaky bushings) or feel anything else odd.

On mine (2014 with 90000Km, 6-speed auto) I had a rough vibration while stopped (in gear/in park) and it turned out to be a bad throttle body. After replacing I still had a light vibration and it was 2x idler pulleys and the belt tensioner.

But it could really be lots of different things. Engine mounts, AC compressor, etc. Bring it into a dealer and just have them take a look.

You can also use the engine oil dipstick. Just scribe the mm markings on the back side of it, and make sure you wipe it real clean before and after you use it.

No other symptoms come to mind.

We had a thread on this a while back. Some think the vibration while stopped may also have to do with the idle speed and/or torque converter:
