I'm having some issues with my 2008 Jeep Patriot, hopefully you guys can help shed some light!

2008, Patriot, 160,000miles, 2.0 ltr engine, front wheel drive

- At about 3000rpm the battery warning light comes on (we tested the battery, came back bad, we bought a new one, the light still comes on at 3000 rpm)

- After driving about 200miles, the transmission temperature warning light comes on and stays on despite lower speeds

- In about 2 more miles, it seems as if its stuck in a low gear (yes, I know, CVTs have no "gears", but that's what it felt like).

- When turning the car off it sounds like a long exhale

WHAT IS GOING ON??

Thank you for the link to the battery issue thread, sounds like a very similar issue! I'll have to get the mechanic to check the wiring.

As for the transmission, the dealership service center told me that they don't touch CVT Transmissions because "it's a lifetime fill", so with that, I don't think there was supposed to be a fluid/filter change at any point, which makes sense because no one has ever mentioned that to me before. I bought my jeep new in 2008 and it has a lifetime powertrain warranty, I'm hoping that since the transmission is part of the Powertrain, the warranty will cover it. Fingers crossed! ...I just have to find a dealership willing to look at it.

Thank you for your reply!

That lifetime fluid fill is a bunch of crock. Your owner's manual HAS a severe service interval that recommends a fluid and filter change at 60,000 miles. If you study this stuff at Bob Is The Oil Guy, you will find a strong consensus (rare among men) to change your CVT fluid and filter at "some" regular interval to promote a longer transmission life.

Having said all this, the fact that you have a lifetime powertrain warranty "maybe" means that you can just run it until it fails. Even so, there is a 120,000 mile fluid/filter change interval recommended. Be careful that your warranty is not voided if you don't follow it.

Just checked my factory service manual: Indeed, there is a 60,000 severe service change and 120,000 mile regular service fluid/filter change recommended for CVT trannies.

You should find another dealer, based on the ignorance of yours. At least, you should show him the owners manual recommendation to straighten him out.

Here is a good discussion of the process: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/15....com/forum/15-engine-drivetrain/14491-cvt-transmission-fluid-filter-change.html

Finally, without trying to be condescending (I have 2 adult daughters): Kudos for seeking out forum advice and taking a proactive stance on vehicle maintenance. PLEASE be aware that many dealer service writers take advantage of women (and men!), assuming they are ignorant of maintenance activities. Your dealer advice is a perfect example. Just like health care, with vehicle maintenance it is best to be your own advocate. Good luck with your issues and welcome to a great forum. People tend to be very respectful of others here. The site I mentioned above can tend to be rather abrasive.

No offense but guy who told you that doesnt know Jeep Patriots. There are plenty people that are pleasant and caring people but lack knowledge in a particular area

Fluid and filter change must be done every 60,000 is driven rough, and 120,000 if driven like a grandma. Its in the manual

As far as doing your home work on Jeep Patriots, this is the best forum bar none Ive found and have benefitted me greatly. If I wasn't a member here before I bought my patriot I would have gotten shafted or in nicer terms, not as good of a deal as I got =-)

thats what we re here for, to help one another
