Newbie here. I have owned a couple yj and the Jeeps but I am a new to the Patriot platform. I recently bought my daughter a 07 limited Patriot and the cvt transmission just blew on it. Im pretty surprised it only has 94k miles on it. Im on here to get some information and insight on the Patriots. Does anyone know if I can install a newer model year cvt transmission in it or do I have to find a CVT transmission for specifically at 2007? Im going to do some searching but I figured I'd ask here while I'm making my introduction. Thanks!

Welcome

If you're buying a re-manufactured CVT the vendor should be able to help you figure out which one you need with your VIN and info from the transmission ID label (see below), but after the swap the system will need to be re-flashed (usually done by a dealer) so everything works right.

Welcome! Glad you found us, though sorry for the reason you did. The CVT is not really a Patriot weak point. The weak point is the owners manual that says the CVT fluid doesn't have to be changed until 120,000. That is the weak point. People believe the owners manual and the trannies fail prematurely. If the tranny fluid is changed every 40-50,000 miles it should go twice as far as yours did, maybe even further. Of course nothing lasts forever but I agree drive-train components ought to make it past 100,000 miles, with good care 200,000. After that. all bets are off.

Thanks. I put it on my lift at work today to do a little more investigation. I suspect it had been overheated a few times and a bearing has failed and cracked the case. I called a well know transmission shop that quoted me an estimate over the phone around $5k with parts and labor with a 3 year 100k mile warranty. Im currently waiting to hear from the used car dealer I bought it from and see if they step up and lend a hand since my daughter has driven and owned this jest a couple days over a month.

That would be nice if they did. I've had places go 1/2 with me, like they'll do the labor free if I pay the parts. Two different GM dealers did trannies that way for me.
