I bought a 2008 yesterday. Northern edition 4x4. I love it, but there is a loud noise I the cvt. I took it to south bank dodge in Ottawa, and they thing the CVT is at fault. Less than 108k on it. I was told the warrantee ran out at 100k. So I called a transmission repair place and was told 2.5 to 3.5 k for a used one installed. He told me he was almost certain that the warrantee was 5 year 115k kilometres. Anyone know for sure? I was first registered in Jan 08.
Other than that, I really like it. Another beautiful vehicle to go with my 63 Avanti!
I had a Jeep Comanchee I bought new in 87. Probably the best vehicle I ever had. At 12 years I kept it the longest of any.

Regards

Neil

You didn't hear the loud noise when you drove it before buying it ? If you did hear a noise then why did you buy it ? This doesn't make sense to me . Take it back to where you bought it and drop it off, tell them to fix it or keep the Patriot and give you a refund. Your other option is to burn it or have someone steal it and collect the Insurance money but that would be against the Law. The place where you purchased it if was a Dealer then they should be responsible for repairs if you just had it for a day IMO. If you bought it from a private party then go back to the burn it or steal it option, then again you could pay to have it repaired and chalk it up for experience.

Warranty question

No I did not drive it before I bought it it looked like new and I was told it drove fine by the dealer. I have never had an issue of engine or transmissions in all of my vehicles. I only read later that this is a weakness. Anyhow, I want to keep it and get it fixed. My question remains - what is the Canadian warranty on the power train for a 2008? The dealer I bought it from sounds cooperative. He told me he thought the noise was normal for a cvt. I thought it was a little too much so I took it to Southbank today for a expert opinion.

I know the lifetime powertrain warranty in the US is non-transferable. I don't know about your warranty but I'm sure someone else knows on this website Sorry to hear about your transmission issues.

Just a little update. I brought it back to where I bought it and they are installing a used transmission as I type. It will be no charge to me which is the right thing to do. Upside is I got to drive my Studebaker Avanti to work today. Jeep is to be ready Monday morning. I saw a early 2000's Cherokee at the transmission shop. It was all I could do to keep aking "how much" You know the kind - AMC 4 liter engine, runs forever etc, etc.
Sure wish I bought the 5 speed. Who makes that transmission anyway?

Glad they are attempting to make it right! I think the CVTs are manufactured by Jatco, and are the same ones used in many Nissans.

I peered in the windows of a couple 2000(ish) Grand Cherokees at a used lot this evening...$ 3K for one, $4K for the other. Couldn't tell what mileage or real condition they were in, but either one would be a fun second set of wheels!

I also saw an '89 Merc 300 SEL on the adjacent lot for $5K. Well-kept, white exterior and navy blue interior. It's probably a lot more pain than it's worth, but boy that era of Mercedes sedans was one of the better ones, in my opinion. That'd be my leisure cruiser of choice.

I got the jeep back last week. Much quieter. The dealer had to t ale it to Chrysler to get it reprogrammed to the vehicle and the end result is it shifts up and down through range without going much over 2200 rpm, which is better than it did before. I am hoping for the best. Sure wish it was North American like I thought. Anyway it still looks like a Jeep, which is nice.
The 4 wheel drive will be nice on the winter. I did see a TJ with a 4 liter in the village here. It took willpower, but I did not stop!

Update after a few weeks

All is well in Patriot land. Much quieter like a normal transmission. Driving it everyday to work and it is going well. Drove it through the first snow of the season today. Seems to go great. I am hoping for many kilometes from it. 110 K now. I had it oiled underneath am in for the long haul. I need to get t trailer hitch on it. Anyone with experience with the ones at CTC?

I got to drive my Studebaker Avanti to work today.
I wouldn't mind blowing a tranny if that was my alternative . . .

At the risk of side-tracking this thread, please say on. What year? How many miles? Original Stude or subsequent maker? Engine? Optioins? A picture would be nice.

Whatever happened to the Avanti reproducers, anyway? Seemed they went on for a number of years after Studebaker folded.

You may be sorry you asked as I am quite a fan. My car made the cover of the Canadian Avanti and my Studebaker Story is on page 14. http://canadianavanti.ca/CAOANewsletter.pdf
My car is a R2 289 (Studebaker) Supercharged with a power shift transmission and is pretty much original. The Avanti was made up to the 90's I believe with a
Studebaker frame and Corvette drive train. There were a couple more iterations up to 2007 I belivieve.
Thanks for the interest.

I ordered a CURT Class III Hitch from RockAuto.com. Part no. 13081. Payed $140.02 (tax and shipping included)

They ship from within Canada, delivery to my door took less that 36 hours.

I have a 2012 North Edition 4x4, I am just wondering what trailer hitch did you buy and put on? And did you have to add a "oil pan cooler" or whatever it's called or anything else OTHER than the trailer hitch itself. Yeah I am a noob to trailers and probably won't use it but It would be nice to have when I do need it.

Hi there. I bought a Curt hitch and wire harness for $225.00 all in shipped to me next day from Canadian Hitches. Took about an hour to put on without lowering the exhaust as they reccommended. I hav enot connected up the harness yet. Quite happy with it and the service from Canadian Hitches.
It is a 3500/350 lbs hitch.
