I have a 2007 pat with 80500 miles (all highway, used to live in Maricopa, AZ in the f**king boonies).

Lately I have had an odd problem that I am really really concerned with. On about five occasions in the past three months I'll turn the key to start and it wont turn to start. All the electronics in the vehicle will turn on and when it happens everything kinda just goes dead. I check the spark plugs and they are find (platinums) and the battery was replaced last year. I do live in Arizona so it hasn't been very cold or hot lately, and it has happen when it has sat overnight or just for a few minutes.

More common though is longer than usual cranks, about three to four seconds to start. When it does start, it seems to be a very hard start (which is what I could categorize it when failed to start at all).

I'm hoping it is just the damn keys but I'm worried it could be something else, any thoughts?

Is this something a computer would return a code on? I'd like Jeep to diagnose it for sure but I want to shop around for potential repairs.

my new Patriot does this occasionally. i only have about 800 miles on it.

seems to correlate to outside air temp combined with residual heat from last drive; hotter = difficult start. maybe MAT or coolant temp switch?

I have a 2008 patriot, slow cranking and won't start ...replaced the battery and starter and even with a battery charger on it same response, it just cranks very slowly and won't start. Checked battery and it has a full charge, checked cables , ends and grounds, cleaned them all still the same

Is the CEL lit or any error codes present?

It could be the starter. I had a Volare that did that to me. Just happend one cold morning. It was cold but not outrageously cold. Probably around zero F or slightly above. It only cranked about half speed and wouldn't catch. I jumped it from our other car but got the same results. The next day it was warmer and it still acted the same way. Battery was fine -- the problem was my starter. I don't think it was realted to the cold, but that is often when starter problems show up.

Oh, and Welcome to the site!
