Symptoms:
  • Loud whining/squealing noise coming from the front passenger side of the engine. Rough idling sound
  • Noise gets louder with acceleration but is still present at idle.
  • Engine feels rough when idling.
  • At first, there was no warning light, but after a short drive, the battery light came on.
  • I pulled over, turned the car off, waited a bit, then restarted it. The battery light turned off, but the noise stayed.
What I've checked/done so far:
  • I checked the power steering fluid - it was slightly low, so I topped it off.

Maybe the alternator pulley, bearing, or something else belt driven starting to seize

Here's what a bad alternator pulley sounds like:

It sounds to me (without hearing it) that you've got either a bad alternator bearing or more likely a squealing belt related to a bad alternator bearing. I'm basing my thought on the battery clue -- it probably isn't getting charged.
