Hey guys,

A few days ago, I purchased a 2009 Jeep Patriot Sport Base Model with 2.0L engine 2WD (FWD) Series: MK.
Ive been researching online about installing cruise control, the base model does not come equipped with cruise control,.

However, there is an insert port below the key ignition to add the cruise control lever switch.

I was wondering if my 2009 Jeep Patriot Sport 2.0L Base Model is wired for cruise control?

I know that you can add OEM cruise control to 2009 Jeep Liberty Base models by removing the steering wheel airbag panel (middle of the steering wheel) by apply pressure to the 3 clips behind the wheel and the airbag panel comes right off. This gives access to the steering wheel clockspring.

So what I need to know, or if anyone can point me in the right direction….is if the 09 Patriot Sport Base model is wired for cruise control.

If so, I would remove the air bag panel, getting access to the clockspring and then would disconnect the two air bag connectors.

The items I would need to install cruise (granted its wired for cruise control) is listed below.

1. OEM Cruise Control Lever Switch (Part Number 4671929AC)

2. OEM Steering Wheel Wiring Kit (Part # 68020374AB) That connects the 2 airbag connectors within the clockspring, and then has a third connector that would plug into the cruise control lever/switch)

3. (2) #10 1/2” screws for mounting the cruise control lever on the right side of steering wheel. There is already the port cut out which makes me think that its already wired for OEM Cruise Control.

Does anyone have any experience, opinions, answers, or help on this subject. And how would I go about checking to see if my Patriot is pre-wired for cruise control. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I can't tell you for certain if yours is wired for it or not, but I know others have successfully installed those kits on base models:

Welcome! Others can give you a more thorough answer, but when I bought my '08 Patriot (2.4 CVT) it was bare-bones. As a condition of sale I had the dealer add cruise control and fog lights, so yes, it can be done.

FYI, I forget the details, it was a leftover I bought in early 2009 and they were desperate to sell it. They discounted off the MSRP and they threw in the cruise control, fog lights, and roof bars to sweeten the deal. There couldn't have been much margin for them to work with so I presume there wasn't much cost or labor involved.

My guess is that the harness was ready for those accessories.

I've heard that the plug for the 120v power socket under the armrest is already there, probably part of making it cheaper for mass production. And if that's the case, the cruise control wiring should already be there too. I too have a rather bare-bones Patriot, only options being the 17-inch wheels, AC, and FD1 with the CVT. Kinda wanted cruise control and all the options when I first got it, but the fact it doesn't have that has grown on me as part of the whole Jeep effect. Kinda nice to have it on my Chevrolets, but even then I barely use it because I just haven't taken a personal vehicle more than an hour away from home in quite awhile.

I can confirm that this is true. I used that plug to run a couple USB charging ports in the center console, front and rear. I also agree that it's probably already got the needed wiring for CC. Or at least most of it.

Thanks you guys so much for the information, Im going to go ahead and just buy the parts…..I think all together the cruise switch and wiring harness is under 60 bucks. If it doesnt work, Ill just return the parts. Im really hoping it works because the universal CC kit is like $200 to 300$.

I know the 2.4L base model is pre-wired for it for a fact. I have the 2.0L and I havnt found any information about installing OEM Cruise Control like I want too. Basically what I am going off is the outlet for the cruise control swtich/lever on the right side of the steering wheel below the key ignition. Why would there be a pre-made insert if it isnt pre-wired?

I belive the Jeep Compass is similar to the Patriot. I should look into that to see if it’s pre-wired and can install OEM Cruise.

On the one hand there's not much to a bare-bones Patriot, but on the other they were trying to keep costs down. I really doubt they would have a dramatically different wiring harness. I imagine there was a "one size fits all" harness and as it moved down the assembly line they just plugged in the accessories as ordered for each vehicle.

You seem like you know what you're doing, but if you're at all unsure, beware of the airbag! You don't want to disconnect it, or have it deploy while you're working on it. Please be careful!!!

Why not hit up your local u-pull-it junk yard and get the parts there. Save yourself some $$ and see where/how it all goes together.

I went to the dealer to be put on my 2009 Patriot. Made up the estimate and I said ok. Later is was determined that Jeep no longer supplies a cruise control kit so they took it to an aftermarket installer, and it had all you could expect.
