I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude 2.0 with a JF011E / OEM: CVT2 / Automatic CVT transmission and a while back we had an issue with putting an after market ac condenser on my Patriot ( we didnt realize the ac condenser also has the transmission cooler included in the condenser.) So after driving it a few days in the Hot Houston Summer my truck started making a ugly noise coming from the transmission and it stopped accelerating all together so i called a wrecker and took it home and my husband said all my transmission fluid leaked out so we replaced the condenser for a mopar one and my husband went to buy more transmission fluid and he went to Autozone and they gave him Valvoline full synthetic CVT ATF fluid and he drained the majority fluid out and replaced it with about 4 quarts of this fluid and it drove fine for a whole year but now recently i noticed that it is starting to make a whinning noise and it is starting to slip. I recently called the dealership to find out if they could check the level and they asked why and i told them what happened the year prior and they informed me that the fluid that my truck should use Mopar Cvtf-4 fluid! Has this happened to anyone else? Do you think my transmission is ruined now? Is there anything i can do to try to fix it besides replacing the whole transmission? Can i change the fluid out for the correct one without draining all the metal shavings out and hope it will start shifting correctly again? I only owe a few more payments on it and i just want to postpone the transmission failure for a few more months to where i can afford to replace it.
